Episode 2, the love scenes with Padme was awful. But the chase through Coruscant, Obi Wan/Jengo fight, everything on Geonosis, Anakin slaughtering the sand people, all great imo, and it gets a bad reputation as being terrible too.

I'm with you. Not great but easily watchable. Why people must dissect a movie to shreds baffles me. I don't have time to even care. It's rare that I watch a movie that bothers me to the point of complaining about it. But that's just me.

The voice immodulation of Queen Amidala and Natalie Portman looking like she'd rather be anywhere else than on the set of this film didn't help, either.

Just watched this other day (my wife somehow agreed to watch all the Star Wars movies before Episode VII. We've got 2 to go) and there's a lot of things that I just can't defend as a Star Wars fan. The midichlorian explanation for The Force is soul-crushing.

Darth Maul could've been a cool character involved in all 3 prequels, but was never given a chance to be viewed as a serious threat since Obi-Wan takes him out after Qui-Gon Jinn bites the dust.

The pod racing scene is still pretty cool and the light saber battle with Darth Maul is a highlight, for sure.

But I think I underestimated how much a long time with out a movie makes people excited for another star wars movie like with Jurassic world being the first Jurassic movie in a long time. I heard about the 600 WW first weekend and 300 USA didn't hear about the 1 billion thing though. I didn't think we would hit 300 USA first weekend in a long long time. I mean there has only been 2 movies to make 200 million so if it makes 300 USA first weekend that would crush that record. Jurassic world made 208 million so 300 would break that by 92 million and that is with being a December movie to. Jurassic world has the most WW in its first weekend at like 560 million or something and so if this movie really makes 92 million more USA then world did in its first weekend that 600 WW first weekend may be low lol.
I think it's getting a big bump because The people who grew up with the original 3 IV, V, VI have kids now at an age where they can take them to the movie and share with their kids. The Prequels were Rock Bottom, Horrible, an absolute waste and if the movies had been made in that order with the prequels coming first, I doubt it would have even made it to the third one. Jon Carter was all world everything compared to those movies. Their only saving grace was that IV, V, and VI came first. I have no idea what George Lucas was thinking other than how can we sell more toys....we need little kids and puppets and a lot of pretty CGI on every inch of the screen.

That said, they did a lot right in the trailers for VII. It feels like we are watching the opening scenes again on Tattooine. I just hope we aren't calling him Jar Jar Abrams a month from now. He has a chance to get this franchise back on track after Lucas derailed it.

I absolutely love the hiding of Luke. Giving the illusion that he could have turned to the dark side, but we really have no clue. I love it.

I've seen Mark Hamill in the new movie. Don't click the spoilers if you don't want the surprise ruined.

As for the prequels, I have rewatched them many times and still enjoy them. Episode III is a top 3 Star Wars movie to me. I really liked Anakin's story, I just wished it had been written better. I saw this on Polygon today, maybe we should just watch the prequels in trailer form:

I've watched the trailer like 120x. So good.

I'm staying out of this thread and other sites to avoid spoilers at all costs but I just gotta say I really think this is gonna be "the one," I think it's gonna be sensational.
