    Re: Gotham

I understand the Alfred criticism but we have to understand that the Alfred we are accustomed to seeing is essentially 15-25 years in the future as he supports Bruce in adulthood on his crusade as Batman. It's not the Alfred who suddenly got stuck with a 10 year old kid who he now has to watch 24/7 because he's holding his hands over candles or leaning over tall buildings..lol. In other words the Alfred we know has already learned how to cope with and support Bruce's behavior. The Alfred in Gotham is dealing with behavior that is all of a sudden foreign to him.

Think of those stories your parents tell you about how tough your grandparents were on them as kids which completely 180's your view of them(hugs, kisses, candy, etc). We are seeing Alfred portraid in the former stage and not the latter..lol

EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

      We have a Harvey Dent.

I realize they're kind of going about things their own way, and to an extent that's fine, but weren't Bruce and Harvey always somewhat similar in age?

Also, I feel like they're trying to bite off more than they can chew. Maybe I'll be wrong because we still have to see how things play out, and I understand they probably need to make a good impression early on to keep things going. It just seems like they're trying to jam too much into the show at such an early stage.

The Riddler is Ed. He is the coroner and forensics guy at the police station. He was the one that told them what the homeless children were being poisoned with.

            1. Dent was always older than Bruce but not by much. I always got the impression Dent is probably 5 years older or so. The gulf between the actors that portrays the characters on this show is much more significant.

            2. I agree with you, it really seems like they're trying to shove the entire Batman Mythos in this series right away rather than letting it breathe organically. Usually when shows try to stuff too much early on it leads to stagnation in later seasons. I don't know what the ratings are like for this show but if it goes beyond this season then I feel like they'll be hard pressed to keep it fresh and interesting over the years.

The cop working with Gordon is Harvey Bullock.

I guess it's different because the entire show is a city before Batman, but yeah it just seems like too much at one time especially if you compare it to other super hero shows

Maybe, if they end up running out of fresh stories or ideas after a season or two, they will move forward in the timeline and this will become a full on Batman series. They will always have the option of jumping forward, and if they decide to introduce somebody new, jump back to show their origin.

Alfred scolding Bruce about creeping up on parole unexpectedly was hilarious.

Or, if they're feeling bold (pun unintended) and out of options with plot advancement, they can just create new characters out of the blue.

But I'd rather see them take is slow with the existing characters rather than introducing and burning a new villain every week, such as they did last week.

I don't know anything about Alfred from Earth One but the Alfred that's with Batman to me had moments of being a smart *** and had attitude even toward Batman at times. So with this Alfred I just figured he was strict when Bruce was younger and mellowed out as he got older dealing with Batman. Lol

                          Re: Gotham

I've seen the last two episodes and am enjoying it. The product value is pretty high and I like the nasty gritty feeling of the city. In comparison to Arrow which I also like, this feels more nasty and untamed which has caught my attention.

And about all the character placement, yes bit of it seems forced but I'm liking seeing these characters before they were "villains." With Harvey Dent, I thigh think it's a bit early and I thought he was closer to Bruce in age though. Like some of you mentioned, I hope they don't run out of ideas

I think this show has been pretty awful so far... too much too soon and JP Smith was just painful to watch this last episode.. I do like the kid who is playing Gordon and Donal Logue is decent as Harvey Bullock, but everything else feels out of place.

It's gotta be tricky writing for young catwoman. Her adult character is so sexual, you have to be careful writing her development as a pre-teen.
