Because we know who they are, it seems too convenient, and as you said laughable.
This has actual been a key to the storyline on some of the best Batman(and others but Batman seems to do it best especially with the Batman vs. Joker relationship) runs. Someone pointing out that all of these "super" villains didn't start showing up until after Batman(or other "super" hero showed up) escalated the whole cops vs robbers scenario. So this show has the kind of tone that could do a good job of driving that point home.

Solid episode tonight though I wish the antagonists that were the focus of the episode were less....Campy is not quite the word but something just seemed off with them, especially the lady. It kinda took me out of the episode a little.

Okay I decided to give the series another go & actually I am warming up to it more after tonight. Is it perfect no but I enjoyed tonights episode and will stick around and continue watching. Maybe I was to quick to judge after the pilot as I did the same thing with battlestar galactica remake which I ended up enjoying. This is a different batman universe from what I was expecting just have to get used to it.

            Selina carried the episode.

got the second episode set for Friday, i thought an interesting premise to the show could have been from the viewpoint of either the original Robin or Batmans son Damien

Really liked this last episode but man, they are dropping the ball with Alfred. It's annoying me.

BTW was that Lisa from Six Feet Under?

Solid episode. Hate to just make these random comparisons, but curious to see how the Dollmaker is in this show when he pops up again because he was one of Arrow's creepier and better villains.

                    Re: Gotham

Forgot to mention a couple things.

-Selina wanting to be called "Cat" is a little too on the nose for my liking.

-I'm surprised at what they've been able to get away with in terms of violence. That guy missing an eyeball, Penguin stabbing the guy with the broken bottle and blood splashing on the screen, and the kids being threatened to be shot in the head are a few examples.

-I really like what they've done with Penguin so far. Also like the guy playing him.

-Did I mention I hate what they're doing with Alfred so far? Yeah? Okay.

This Alfred is essentially the Alfred from Batman: Earth One, which I like. It's nice to see a slightly different take on the character than we usually see in movies.

Hopefully they will have some character development for Alfred so that he's closer to the Alfred we are accustomed to by the end of the series

I"ve read Batman: Earth One and while that take on Alfred is a colder, hard *** than the one we know and love I just feel like on Gotham they've made him so cold and tough that there's no real affection one can hope to have with his character. I really do hope they soften some of the rough edges because at this point in time I hope Bruce offs him in the middle of the night.
