I don't think it's that easy to find the idol, but I do believe there are too many of them. The rule of bringing them back is definitely overkill with the situation. They need to stick with 1 Super Idol or 2 regular Idols. Once those are gone, it's gone for good.
However... at the same time, bringing back these idols also makes for great suspense on the show. Just like the last vote, if the idol wasn't replayed by Spencer, he would have easily been going home because the other alliance would have wrote his name down without any danger of him possibly playing an idol.
And the reason why these major players like Russell, Tyson or Tony always find an idol is because they are outplaying the competition by going out and continuously searching until they find it. They're outwitting the competition by finding the idol without giving the suspicion that they even started searching for it.
How many times in past seasons have you seen a minor player look for the idol, and after searching and not finding anything they give up? What's worst are the players who go searching for the idol knowing that they're next on the chopping block, so of course other players get suspicious of them.
And these are edited for a reason. Do you really want to see Kass or Jethra lazily look for the idol and not find anything for 5 minutes of the show? Or do you want to see a paranoid, crazy looking fool like Tony digging through dirt and trees looking for it?
If you heard Tony, and this is the reason why he's considered a major player, he's smart and he knows the game. He says "They always hide the immunity idol on some weird looking structure like a tree or something"
So he goes and searches through a few trees that he knew about and found nothing. Then when he goes for a walk, he finds that odd looking tree and yes miraculously found it.
Like they say, if you want to be good at something, you have to work for it. Tony has worked for it. The other players like Kass, Jethra, Jeremiah sat there waiting to be Top 3.
