    That's great to hear!
I was under the assumption it could be a one-and-done.

I doubt it can take over for GoT's though. More people are into swords and dragons these days than westerns.
I wish that weren't true though. I hope this becomes such a smashing success, more western series' begin to sprout.

I'm certain it will, this is a rather unique concept and I really think people are starting to tire of the constant dragons/medieval stuff (not GoT though, but in general)...

        Agreed!
I think people are getting tired of Zombies and Dragons. Maybe someone will write a Zombie Dragon show.

I hope we're about to enter the era of The Man with No Name.

Most likely we'll get a western zombie and dragon show.

Yeah I could go for some modern day westerns in the vein of Clint Eastwoods Unforgiven...but I'd rather it be on cable where they can portray it realistically and not on something like NBC where it'd be stupid

The ratings have been amazing. Of course those ratings will stick if the show remains good to great.

I think a show about androids in this type of element has been sorely lacking. A good number of films but never any television about this sort of thing.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

It's working up to some pretty horrific stuff but the buildup to it hasn't wowed me.

AMC aired the BBC series Humans which was exactly this. In this case androids are being used as servants, although some are illegally using them in brothels, which deals with the male fantasy aspect.

It's good show, but nowhere near the level of production we have in Westworld

                  I loved Humans.

                  Great show.

                  Some crazy twists in it.

is joining the cast, that's a nice get. It is a smaller scale production yes, but its storytelling is strong.

There's quite a few things in episode 3 that forced me to rewind and hear again. I'm still not sure I fully grasp most of it.

Westworld is great so far. I'm in it for the long haul. Plus my girlfriend is into it too, which is a major plus.

The overarching idea isn't anything new, but I love Westerns, and this seems like a great mix. Never saw the movie, but I'd like to after the first season.

The rise of the hosts seems inevitable, but I already find myself questioning who's who.

                          Re: Westworld (HBO)

I'm still on the Bernard is a host bandwagon. Can't shake that feeling since episode 1.

I know a couple things happened in this episode to try and debunk it but there are counterpoints to each.

In ep3 Bernard has a memory of his son. Yet, this happens in the same episode we see Teddy programmed to have a memory of Wyatt.

Also, Bernard is quick to shut down conversation about what happened to his son. This is the same as Teddy being unable to explain who Wyatt is. As Ford says they didn't program a backstory for him. Teddy just knows he has some things to take care of. Bernard just knows his son died and uses it as inspiration to keep working.

Another hint is Bernard speaking to his wife. This could be a true debunker. But the wife also complains that Bernard is always at work. How convenient.

So assuming this is the case, Bernard is a host, it would mean that the hosts in the park are levels behind the type of programming Bernard has. It's the only way the theory makes sense. Bernard doesn't have his memories wiped. He has a need to communicate to a wife. And he pretty much acts on his own volition.

Could Ford be sitting back trying to see if his more advanced AI can figure out what causes sentience? Because wouldn't that be a major push for self consciousness?

A host understanding its place in the universe is a breakthrough, but a host developing non-scripted empathy for another is a major breakthrough.

That's my talking aloud moment for this episode. See you next week.

This show has G.O.A.T. potential for me. The writing is on point for what I'm looking for in a show. I hope that the action scenes don't eventually overtake the one on one dialogue scenes.

Someone on another board said that binge viewing has made it tough for shows with a slow building narrative to do as well now as weekly show. A lot of people are already crying about "nothing happening".

I just find the "diagnosis scenes" involving hosts and humans to be kind of boring, so I'd like something to overtake them or at least accompany them. Sure, I like the concept of artificial intelligence taken to the consciousness level but the journey isn't that exciting to me. Many times the interaction reminds me of a psychiatrist using hypnotherapy on a patient.

I think it will get better as the hosts get to another level and I'm including human-host clinical sessions . This is a multi-season series, right?

EDIT: Heads up-some comments about this show might appear in the Official Android Discussion Thread.
