The only thing about the show that's not doing anything for me is the side love story. Presently it doesn't look like it's a factor, but you never can tell with this show.

Re: Westworld (HBO)
I just don't think it has the legs for a 5 year or longer show.
It is just going to be the same things over and over and the "casual" viewers will drop off. Both myself and the people are work with are saying the same thing, that we are getting bored with it.
Which is a terrible sign after what 4 episodes?ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

90 and 91 on RT and IMDB. So I think the people you're talking to are in the minority.
I think people are getting spoiled binge watching on Netflix. What I've been doing is "chain link watching" (I think I just made that term up) ..... watching the previous week episode for the 2nd time and then watching the new episode.
I don't want the show to last for 5 years if that means watering things down. Now 1 thing that people may not remember from the movie is that there were other Worlds as well that they showed briefly.Last edited by daflyboys; 10-25-2016, 11:53 AM.Comment

Re: Westworld (HBO)
Wow. I thought episode 4 was the best so far and the people I see online chatting about it feel the same way.
But everyone's got their thoughts. I think it's a slower building show but I love it just like that."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I've seen this theory

Only keep reading if you don't want the show to be potentially ruined for you because while it is a theory, it will likely change how you view the series. There's no going back once you start considering this theory.
Okay, you're still here, so you made your bed...

There are events occurring in different time periods
and at first immediately said, "no way. Doesn't make sense."
But after watching episode 4, I am convinced the theory is the best one out there and I'm 100% behind it.

The events between Logan (black hat), William (white hat), and Dolores are from 30 years prior. They make up "the incident" storyline. So far, as far as I can figure out, the rest is in the present.
What does this mean?
Dolores didn't walk from shooting GTA Trevor into William's arms. Different events. Different days / years. Just careful editing.
It's somewhat difficult to tell which Dolores we are watching. Past or present?
Reasons I believe this theory:
1. Why mention the incident from 30 years ago?
2. Why have the Man in Black mention it's been 30 years?
3. Why when asked who Dolores is with (when stated that she's off her loop) be confused if she's with a host or guest? How could they not know? It's because the Dolores they are referring to is not the Dolores with William.
4. Dolores's several flashbacks / confusion. She's combining different periods in her life cycle.
5. Dolores is the oldest model. There's a reason that's important.
Adding to this theory, my own thoughts:
Maeve is in the present. But Maeve is not in the past scenes. At least she isn't a prostitute in those scenes. Hints?
1. Maeve is mentioned as having played several roles
2. Maeve is never in any scenes with William and Logan when at the brothel
3. Clementine is the only one present in William and Logan scenes
4. It is mentioned that Clementine can take Maeve's role (when Maeve is out of commission) because she's handled the role before (as in 30 years ago)
I think it is very likely we will witness a true reveal of this theory by finding Maeve in one of her old roles.
But, in an effort to keep the secret hidden, I also wouldn't be surprised if the story tries to throw us off by having an episode in which Maeve is moved from her current role in the brothel because of her awakening (finding the bullet in her abdomen) And in that, the viewer will be turned to believe the Maeve they see in a different role is actually Maeve in a new role with William & Logan. I really think this is how it'll play out.
Lastly, I think Logan is either the son or brother of the Man in Black (if not the man himself but 30 years feels not long enough to go from Logan to Ed Harris). It's too coincidental that there are two central characters both wearing black as their man identifiers. If the theory that Logan's storyline takes place 30 years prior to MiB's is true then it is an even heavier swing of a big storytelling writing tool.
My belief is that something happens to Logan during the incident. And it is what creates the familiarity between MiB and Dolores (who happens to be hanging around William and Logan "now").
This also bleeds into Logan saying Westworld will need to bump up Logan's company's share. That share is what helps The MiB start his fundraiser (maybe in honor of Logan?) and have the money needed to visit the park over and over again.
It's still very possible MiB is Logan. I can see MiB being the disgruntled older version of Logan who is tired of the games and just wants to unlock a deeper meaning in the design.

Dang, that's a great theory and everything you pointed out makes me believe it's the truth.
The only thing that I disagree with is Logan being the MiB, only because Logan seems like a very one-dimensional person who is only interested in shooting one, or both of his guns off - if you catch my drift.
If anything, I could see the MiB being William. Perhaps the 'incident' changes his personality from sweet natured to bitter?
After reading your theory, the first scene between the MiB and Dolores takes on new meaning.

For example,
If you're the type to want to rewatch.
-Note that the Westworld logo is different in Logan / William scenes than in other scenes.
-The first character William runs into (from off the train, the one he bumps into and wants to start a fight) is a different character than the one that Teddy bumps into
-The sheriff has a very different game he's rounding up people for than the one Teddy sees when he first steps into the park from the train.
Look, it could be different days, different storylines. Or it could be much more.

Re: Westworld (HBO)
As interested as I am in what some of these theories might be, I'm going to resist reading.
So the cat is out of the bag with Thandie Newton (can't remember character's name), and Dolores is slowly figuring it out.
Looking forward to finding out the connection between Ed Harris, Ford, the death of Arnold, "the game", and hosts gaining consciousness.
Bernard seems to have some Arnold in him based on what little we've been told about Arnold by Ford.
Ford is pretty callous, and I'm still trying to figure out what his motives are. He clearly has a master plan, but based on his stated differences from Arnold, I'm not sure how the sentience of the hosts plays into his plan, though I believe he must know about what's going on.Comment

So I am guessing with the lack of posts on here today, that most people watch the Walking Dead last night instead of Westworld?
I just watched the latest episode and I have lost total interest in this show.
Just read that last weeks episode was down 25% from the week before and last nights episode was down another 19%, not good.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

I've been completely engrossed in this series thus far.
After reading CMH's theory, last night's episode was even more interesting.
Can I ask why you didn't like last night's episode?Comment

Re: Westworld (HBO)
I can see why The Walking Dead is more popular than Westworld.
First, the genre seems to still be going strong, while Westerns haven't really been popular for many years now.
Secondly, I don't think the average viewer wants to think too much while watching TV.
It's why shows like Arrested Development and 30 Rock get cancelled while The Big Bang Theory go on and on and on.
I got bored of TWD after 4 seasons. The truth is, I got bored of it half-way thru Season 2. But based on how strong Season 1 was, I kept going until I finally had enough with the wash-rinse-repeat formula that show has had for 7 seasons now;
- Wander thru woods
- Find Safe Haven
- Find out it's not so safe
- Run from Governor
- Repeat
But I seem to be in the minority as the season premier had 17M viewers.
I really hope Westerworld can hold on. It's supposed to run for 5 seasons and each episode gets more interesting with little tidbits.
But I do believe if CMH's theory is correct, they may have to reveal it sooner than later to keep viewers watching.Comment

Re: Westworld (HBO)
And before everyone says it, I do like shows that make you think.
I cannot put my finger on why, but this show just really bores me.
It's just not for me. I think it has something to do with how the hosts storylines are on a loop. And the loops will probably end up having a key role in the show but like I said it just bores me to death.
I want to want to watch a show to give it an hour each week.
When I would rather play 2k or Madden than watch a show it has lost me.
That's what is happening with this show with me.
I can tell you that my lunch group has 6 members. We eat lunch in our break room at 11:30 each day and talk about sports and shows.
The other 4 0f the other 5 guys watched the first 3 episodes and are now too done with it.
I really don't see anyway this show last 5 seasons.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
