I decided to get rid of Hulu Live TV and am downgrading to just regular Hulu with no ads. Picked up Philo as a replacement and got Peacock and Discovery+ too.

So I now have

Netflix (use In-Laws account)
HBO Max (free with ATT)
Philo
Hulu with no ads
Peacock with no ads
Discovery+ with no ads
Paramount+ with no ads
Disney+
Amazon Prime
I also pay for YouTube premium but I get the student discount and have Spotify premium too

Overall its a lot of services but still cheaper than cable. I just dont have locals, news, and sports but Im okay with that. I might get ESPN+ eventually as its only like $1 a month due to the bundle.

Yeah, just started using Paramount+. It’s probably worth the price if you have kids or if you wish you still were a kid (throwback Nickelodeon shows). Currently watching Episode 2 of 250 of Double Dare. They had Marc Summers working his *** off.

Warner and Discovery are merging. I guess ATT got tired of being in the cable/streaming game

I hate how all the content owners are creating their own steaming platforms; it's getting to be like cable all over again.

I got rid of my cable a few months ago and it's been great. I didn't watch all that much to begin with and now I'm saving like $150 month and feel like I have more time to read again. As silly as it sounds, I used to feel like I better watch TV over reading since I'm paying for it.

Although for me, I can't think of many non sports networks I'd even want to pay an individual price for on cable TV. Most channels I watch, I feel like maybe 1 or 2 shows max I watch per channel. Even if I paid $5 a month for the channel, no guarantee I even watch it daily or weekly

Channel flipping is a big thing for me too, which is why I could never stream sports. During a commercial break, intermission, halftime or anything, I'd flip to another channel. Even if all I watch is a single scene on a TV show, I like having that option.

Streaming services come online and shutter like the changing of the tides. Right now everyone is jumping in, but let the returns be minimal for years on end and they’ll go the way of PS Vue.

I can see Paramount+ (CBS), Peacock (NBC), Disney+ (ABC/FOX), and HBO Max (Warner) sticking as they’re attached to a larger entity. I expect Amazon and Netflix to survive as well. But Discovery+ or these like, streamers just for horror movies etc I think will be acquired and rolled in to one of the behemoths. I believe something like that just happened with a wrestling streaming service.

Expand, contract, consolidate.

This isn't a la carte. Sadly a la carte is never happening since it isn't in the best interest of different channels' parent companies.

Haha, yup. What we wanted versus what we got.

I still think it’s way better than shelling out for a whole cable package just based off the terms of contracts (month to month versus year(s) with cable). I like being able to cancel when I’m not using a service much and not get hit with fees and service charges. It’s how it should be.

Plus, and I’m sure this ride will end eventually, but being able to share logins with friends and family. I have a service or two, a buddy has one, another has another, and we share login to spread the cost.

The worst part is you can’t just turn on the TV and get to it. We have to stream off phone, laptop, or PS4. So like for my son who is starting to do things like that on his own, it’s a bit more complicated than hit a button and get to watching. That’s just how it is now, though. He’ll learn. Ha

You can get a decent one for not a lot of money at all these days. The only service I have that doesn’t have an app on mine is Peacock.

You’d be amazed at how fast your kids will pick these things up. My 7yr old knows how to use a Roku and her Smart tv already.

We had to put a code on all of our stuff because my 7 (then 6 year old) was buying episodes of Sonic the Hedgehog on Amazon Prime. Now I know he can read pretty good so he doesn't have an excuse.

The 4 year old still needs some help though. Part of my morning routine is walking to the living room and turning the TV on something like Bluey or The Three Musketeers. It's the Goofy, Mickey, and Donald Duck version though.

The cheap universal remote I bought years ago for my TV and receiver works with my Roku. So other than the buffering when I change channels, it's just like cable, but better since I can seamlessly switch from YTTV to Disney+ or AppleTV.

YTTV and Disney+ are the only subscriptions I currently have. I signed up for Netflix in January for Cobra Kai but canceled when I was done.

I keep saying I'm going to cancel Disney+ but haven't yet. I'm not sure if I want to stay on for the Loki show or not. I really need to get back on the Clone Wars animated show too.
