Living out here in rural Colorado, we pay $90/month for 20 mbps to our local company which is the only option. That is a deal for us because they just offered internet only service, where as we were paying close to $200 for a landline and internet. So yeah, about time to cut the streaming too.

Yeah I might check to see if I can get a deal for cable...I'm paying like $180/mo for just internet anyway (Gigablast with unlimited data). I like how YTTV can be watched from any device though, I doubt Cox cable has that feature

Damn y'all really get screwed with internet. I pay $60/mo for 1 GB speeds with CenturyLink (I don't really come close to that but I get 300+ mbps pretty consistently)

Internet is a bitch depending on where you live. Even in bigger cities sometimes you only have one option. Where I live in San Diego you'd think we'd have options galore. But it's only Spectrum or AT&T. Spectrum has better speeds and no data cap. AT&T just put in fiber but not all the speed tiers are available yet and the have a no cap plan but you have to get other stuff with it.

I currently have the Spectrum top tier plan which gives me between 350-400mbps when running speed test. I've never had issues with it and enjoy their service. But it does cost basically $100 a month. Blah [emoji1745]

I mean, at this point, data caps? I feel I would not get my connection from whatever company had caps out of principle. Unless it was the only internet in town in which case I would eat the cap

It's funny you mention that. I had AT&T for years, their service was fantastic, but then they decided to force a cap on my plan. I immediately switched to Spectrum. Told them I'd stay with them as long as I had no cap. They didn't budge. Oh well. Their loss.

But at least once, sometimes twice a year I get a AT&T sales person at my door trying to get me to switch. I always tell they you guys had me for years and I'd still be with you if you hadn't tried to force a cap on me. They try to sway it this way and that. But I'm just like tell the idiot higher up that decided on implementing that plan ****ed up and I'm sure you guys lost many customers. Especially when they was a rival company right there ready to swoop in. Such a stupid, greedy decision by a big company who didn't even need to do it.

We are at the mercy of our little mom and pop operation with the monopoly. They received grants to lay fiber optics lines throughout the area, but only schools and agencies receive their internet via FO. My school can access over a gig! It is what it is I guess.

                      I have Spectrum and it's $80/mo. I get maybe 250 down and 30ish up.

C-Spire buried fiber in my yard and there's even an access box in the corner but the service isn't available yet. I checked and if you go paperless it's the same price as Spectrum for 1gig. I'll probably swap to that when it's available.

Some rural areas definitely suffer from companies putting them in a chokehold. I know some people who can only get Satellite internet and they pay as much as I do.

Spectrum is the best available here right now and they know it. If you call and threaten to leave they don't even entertain a promotional rate anymore. They just call your bluff because they know you will be back after you deal with AT&T for a few months. Everything AT&T touches goes to crap. They have hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced so It's not even an option for me.

When I was overseas we were getting shafted by "Americable." in Japan. Just like most companies contracted to render services to military personnel they were the payday loan company of the internet world. If you lived off base you could get a Japanese company that was great but on base it was bad bad.

yeah too bad the monopolies are not the like cell phone where 3rd parties can use the same airwaves owned by the big 3. If it was then all you need fiber and cable lines laid then any service provider could share and use those lines.

Yup. I've written several small novels in the death of customer service thread about how bad my experiences with AT&T were. A big reason why I left last summer is so I wouldn't have to deal with them again.

I'm happy with YTTV, but cable isn't an option where I live. AT&T U-Verse and WOW! are the two service providers for my neighborhood and they've both phased out cable. They're strictly internet now where I live.

I have internet and landline phone with Spectrum in NC currently paying $68 which will go up 15 bucks in December. I have had Spectrum Silver Triple Play in the past which includes HBO. With all associated fees that service would cost over $150 a month. I think I would rather just go back to YouTube TV or Hulu Live than go that route.

HBO Max Netflix and Hulu basic is all I need now. Miss the Golf Channel and MLB though.

We've had YTTV for a couple of years and is about as easy as it can get get. Unlimited DVR makes it nice to load up on shows that she could just go right to on the library menu.
