They didn't/don't want to pay him. Plus he was/is doing Giants games, which means he couldn't do anything besides SNB for ESPN. They want guys who they can work to death for way less money. Guys who are just happy to be there.

Dan Shulman does 35 games for the Blue Jays so that doesn't wash. Shulman is also worked to death by ESPN as he's their top college Bball guy as well. They'd probably ask him to do less games for the Giants but he'd still be able to do it. Actually, since Miller would basically only work one night a week he could probably still do his Giants broadcasts except for weekend games.

Jon Miller literally just did SNB and maybe the all-star game. And Miller was doing way more than 35 games for the Giants. More like 135.

Shulman only does the SNB game and then goes back home to Toronto for the rest of the week. Shulman has stated he'd like to do more than just the 35 games for the Jays but ESPN has control of his dates. Basically as it stands he does the SNB games, goes home to Toronto and sometimes a Jays assignment which amounts to a series more or less. (the bulk of the games he does are in town but he's done some road games) Later in the season his dates are covered by ESPN for college bball commitments and any late season playoff implication games which ESPN puts on the schedule. So his duties baseball wise goes up a bit during the stretch.

Well, I'd be willing to bet that Miller made more money in his final year doing only baseball once a week than Shulman makes doing everything he does at ESPN right now. Plus, I suspect Miller wouldn't have been cool with ESPN limiting his SF Giants to that extent.

Would be kinda ironic if somewhere down the line Dave Flemming took over SNB.

This is a perfect example. Tonight, the Yankees and Astros are on no other station but Espn. Guess I have to deal with this garbage.

As much as I say "Yes, do it," selfishly I don't want him to be away from my SF radio station doing Giants' radio PBP on Sunday afternoons while he has to go travel. Good thing we still have Dave Flemming.

Actually, speaking of which, I foresee him taking on the national stage full-time sooner than later. He has jumped in for some ESPN games, and if you have heard him I think you'd love his way of providing some color to the PBP. It's hard to explain, but he's a great broadcaster. I think ESPN will snag him very soon and Giants fans will be left with soon-to-retire Kuiper, Krukow, and Miller (I'd give them 5-7 years, tops).

Then we'll be stuck with... Affeldt.

Ehh, I'll say this. I was never a huge fan of Morgan, but I'll take him over the idiots they have in the booth now.

Jon Miller and Joe Morgan may have gotten a little stale over the years. But at least I could stomach them.

I'd rather not have a guy in the booth that thinks pitcher wins and RBI are meaningful stats.

Joe Morgan was the commentator who first showed me how great a muted sports game and a new music album go well together. Haven't had issues with commentary since.
