Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Twitter, and social media in general, have negatively affected more careers than anything else I can think of in modern society. Honestly, whatever marginal benefit you get from being active on social media, if you're a public figure, has got to be outweighed 10-fold by the potential downside of every random, not-fully-thought-out comment you've ever made being completely public.Comment

You mean you don’t like a “reporter” who has a ridiculous list of controversies like this?

On the other hand, if you lack the self-discipline to self-censor (which, apparently, most of the people on twitter do), I suppose you get what you deserve to some extent.Comment

On a personal note I didn't find what Hill wrote to be THAT bad but knowing the context of the quote and her toxicity to a large part of society and well yeah, she was going to catch hell which is why I was disappointed. She knows if she goes there she's gonna get attacked even if it's relatively benign.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Yes.
I can see how some would be offended, but I don't personally see the fuss considering her history with that phrase. I also don't expect most of the people getting offended to know where that came from before yesterday.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I don't expect the people upset to know her history with the phrase, nor do I expect the outlets to let them know. Shoe on the other foot, I'd probably want to hear an explanation so I can easily see the uproar. I don't take it seriously, but I'm not at all surprised.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
That doesn't really matter, though. Those getting all up in arms are the same people cheering the idiot getting up and yelling, "You lie" in the middle of a SOTU. She has a crowd following her for the sole purpose of getting offended by what she does. I don't expect them to think above a moment-to-moment frame of mind.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
So, she said something stupid (again), and people who are on her side minimized it and made excuses, while people on the other side are trying to make as much out of it as possible. And everyone in the middle (the majority) is just numb to it all at this point.
Yeah, this is why I got sick of following politics.Comment
