She says that all the time in different contexts, news conferences, sporting events, etc, I was surprised it was a thing but then I wasn't. We really just need to delete Twitter.

Twitter, and social media in general, have negatively affected more careers than anything else I can think of in modern society. Honestly, whatever marginal benefit you get from being active on social media, if you're a public figure, has got to be outweighed 10-fold by the potential downside of every random, not-fully-thought-out comment you've ever made being completely public.

Exactly! I made it a bunch of years not hearing much about him after moving, but now he's on some national radio show and I'll hear it sometimes....his voice is even grating.

I'd like to think of social media as self-made guillotines.

Seems like a good idea for a twitter feature (if it isn't already one). "Delayed Send", where anything you post gets put in an 'outbox', and after 2-hours or whatever set amount of time, it prompts you to ask if you want to go ahead with posting the tweet or not. It may at least slightly cut down on spur-of-the-moment emotional outbursts going out to the whole world.

On the other hand, if you lack the self-discipline to self-censor (which, apparently, most of the people on twitter do), I suppose you get what you deserve to some extent.

Not all social media is harmful the way Twitter is. Honestly, anything with such a restrictive word count is bound to get some people in a whole lot of trouble. You can still put yourself in a heap of trouble on Facebook and/or Reddit but at least you've got a longer leash to really put yourself in trouble.

On a personal note I didn't find what Hill wrote to be THAT bad but knowing the context of the quote and her toxicity to a large part of society and well yeah, she was going to catch hell which is why I was disappointed. She knows if she goes there she's gonna get attacked even if it's relatively benign.

                        Yes.

I can see how some would be offended, but I don't personally see the fuss considering her history with that phrase. I also don't expect most of the people getting offended to know where that came from before yesterday.

I don't expect the people upset to know her history with the phrase, nor do I expect the outlets to let them know. Shoe on the other foot, I'd probably want to hear an explanation so I can easily see the uproar. I don't take it seriously, but I'm not at all surprised.

That doesn't really matter, though. Those getting all up in arms are the same people cheering the idiot getting up and yelling, "You lie" in the middle of a SOTU. She has a crowd following her for the sole purpose of getting offended by what she does. I don't expect them to think above a moment-to-moment frame of mind.

So, she said something stupid (again), and people who are on her side minimized it and made excuses, while people on the other side are trying to make as much out of it as possible. And everyone in the middle (the majority) is just numb to it all at this point.

Yeah, this is why I got sick of following politics.
