Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I think the comment though was related to someone leaking that he got fired and was escorted from the building though.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
What confidential info has he leaked, though? I don't remember any bombshell stories about ESPN that required any kind of confidential information to report. They've had a bunch of layoffs, which is public info, and the ratings and expenses for "Get Up" are a disaster, which is also public information.
I mean, I guess I don't really have an opinion one way or another, but I'd be interested to know what it is that he's been leaking that would make firing him the best option.Comment

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Was listening to the SI Sports Media podcast and apparently Virk missed a Baseball Tonight conference call and called his boss afterwards to ask some very specific questions re: the call, some of which weren't even discussed on the call. That info was then posted almost verbatim on Awful Announcing a day later. To put a cherry on top, he did this on his COMPANY PHONE*.
Look, I'm very rarely on a corporation's side of... well.. anything but you almost have to fire him for being this sloppy, and frankly stupid, independent of the info he actually leaked.
On the other hand, ESPN's entire morning content machine is fueled by leaks some of their highest profile employees get from other organizations. Also, Jim Miller has built an entire empire based on leaks from ESPN staff and no one was ever fired for that.
Like most things in life, the blame/fault is somewhere in the middle.
*whoever the reporter is should learn from this and do better by his sources in the future. Maybe don't post things verbatim if they're single sourced and said on background. Maybe wait until you have enough independent sources so you can keep it vague enough to protect all parties.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 02-05-2019, 08:46 AM.NFL - Vikings

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Kind of a stupid thing to get fired over. I mean, who even really cares all that much about "Baseball Tonight" being cancelled? Even if you do care, it's not like a landscape-changing scoop or anything.
I have to agree w/ dsallupinyaarea; while I despise ESPN, I can't really blame them here. Virk didn't really leave them much choice with his really ham-fisted attempt at a leak.Comment

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Maybe it was just an excuse to fire him. He recently signed a. 4 year deal worth over 7 figures. Maybe they realized it wasn’t worth it. Idk.

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
Except, no one put a gun to the executives' heads to sign him to that deal. Let's face it, the people running ESPN are a bunch of incompetent boobs.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I don't think there's a general radio/tv thread, so sorry if there is and I missed it...
Just can't stand Rob Parker on Fox radio (he subbed in for Dan Patrick today)....Wasn't a fan of his writing or radio back in Detroit either, but man he's brutalNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I just listened to the latest Richard Dietsch (sp) podcast and he had James Andrew Miller on to discuss the Virk firing. To say that he was upset about it would be putting it mildly. It's a good discussion though if you have young ears nearby listening just be advised there are a few F and an S bomb thrown in there.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: ESPN Cleaning House
I'm just glad that ESPN Radio still covers baseball on some programs time to time. They understand that the TV crowd and satellite radio crowd are two very different demographics, and can still get a baseball audience if need be.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
