Yeah, I didn't realize so many people didn't care for them. I watch The 6 almost every day.

I think the kind of person who is likely to sit down for an hour and watch Sportscenter is not the same person who would enjoy their rapport.

My guess is that ratings suggest that the type of person likely to sit down and watch and hour of Sportscenter wasn't tuning in at 6pm. So they rebranded it as The 6, and hoped to bring their audience from His & Hers and The Numbers Never Lie to the new time slot.

I mean, people complaining about them didn't realize that they were in the new slot, meaning they weren't watching the time slot anyway.

I really just meant that they cater to a younger, more "hip" audience, and I don't think people are sitting down to watch Sportscenter, it's just a lost cause. They'll catch the highlights on YouTube and listen to a podcast for analysis or read Reddit. I'm not sure what audience ESPN is supposed to serve with the rise of the Internet. It's like MTV.

            Re: ESPN Cleaning House

            People still watch ESPN?

I gave them up a long time ago. Once MLBN, NFLN, NBATV and NHLN came around.

ESPN was history for me. And a lot of their shows save for:

            30 for 30
            The Sports Reporters

            Were awful in my opinion.

            That golden goose is dead.

I only watch College Gameday and any live sports they have that I want to watch. But Sportscenter? Long gone.

It is a tough business to begin with.

I grew up on ESPN. And for a while it was awesome. But it got watered down, then the big 4 got their own networks and that was the death blow once the talent pool was being populated on those networks. And IMO all the fluff and contrived crap really got over killed. ESPN has some great stuff like 30 for 30 which is just IMO the best sports show on the planet.

MLBN and NFLN are awesome. NBA TV and NHLN are still green IMO but will soon catch up.

I like the irony of the 6 PM SC being rebranded as "The 6". I mean that's the lexicon of Toronto

Okay, only a Toronto area guy like me would find the humor in that.

It's clearly an attempt to pander to trendy urban lingo.

That said, I don't mind the show. I enjoy the conversational tone, especially compared to all of the "take" shows. The unsubtle attempts at humor are often cringeworthy, especially when you see it coming a mile away. But I would rather they go that route then dig in to serious issues, because neither have the credentials for the OTL thing.

Maybe LL Cool J should come out of retirement and do an old school hip hop joint for The Six.

I didn't think people took that part literally when it was announced.

I figured they were going more hip/urban or trying to broaden their audience. But if you're still watching Sportscenter for highlights anyway....yeah, that's not the place anymore.

I find this disappointing still...why can't there be a simple highlight show all sporting events the previous night with a glimpse of what's ahead today/tomorrow?

ESPNews used to do that up until somewhat recently, but they even cut that out.Now they just show content that aired on ESPN/ESPN2 earlier in the day.

It's the equivalent of expecting to find music videos on MTV/MTV2/VH1/Fuse/BET, etc. Not happening anymore.
