Re: Avengers: End Game
We saw it last night finally. I'm not really sure what to think. It was a good movie with some really great parts throughout, but holy **** the pacing was terrible. The first half of the movie dragged with all the melodramatic stuff. I understand the importance those scenes served (especially when there's some weird scenes not included), but I always feel like they try to cram the EMOTIONS and FEELINGS into the Avengers movies rather than seeding and developing it in the solo films. Since you can't really follow up IW's snap with a line of solo films I understand why they had to plug in everybody's emotional journeys in, but it really made the movie feel long.
Aside from that I left just feeling, for lack of a better word, indifferent. There's all this buildup, teasing out, and hype, but by the end it all felt anti-climatic. IDK.
Thank god for mice (or was it a rat?)
Dr. Hulk was a swing and miss for me. It was cool to see him "balanced" and I guess that's some kind of resolution for his arc, but it was a weird development from IW. Not to mention the fact the Hulk was essentially a pacifist in this movie. I don't recall him laying hands on anybody of note. And looking back at the "Hulk smash" bit when they jump back to Avengers 1 is depressing. During the movie it was fun, but now I'm like, "damn, they really did Hulk like some pacifist bodybuilding scientist."
Captain Marvel. So much for introductions. She walked in like a member of the team. Maybe that was addressed in her movie, but it made the beginning feel a little weird. And then she's gone for 98% of the film. Felt like a tease.
Thorbowski was fantastic. We were talking about his beer belly on the way back home. It had to be the most chiseled beer belly ever. Dude still had toned abs sticking out from underneath. When he went into lightning god mode I was ready to ****ing roll. I'm actually looking forward to his wayward travels with DorkLord Quill.
The first scene was ****ing wonderful which says a lot because I really feel nothing for Hawkeye. The scene between him and Black Widow at the soul stone did nothing for me, however. I didn't feel anything for Black Widow dying other than being pissed it wasn't Hawkeye and for realizing there were no other female heroes left until the end of the movie and that "scene" which coming from Marvel feels so damn token it almost plays like a joke.
Time-Travel. I hate this ****. It is my least favorite narrative device because it is clunky, confusing, and full of holes that only have an explanation of "time travel." To me its sole purpose is to distract and make a simple plot appear to be more complex than it actually is. I wasn't too hot on any part of it. It was a neat way to break the 4th wall and get some meta-fan service in, but I felt like it got in the way too much.
Captain mother****ing America. When the hammer went to him I about jumped out the damned seat. Cap was slugging Thanos like a champ for a couple seconds. So much fun to see. The elevator scene was awesome. A lot of great moments with him and I loved his send-off. Cap was the series for me so Black Panther and Spidey will have a big shield to wield moving forward.
Iron Man. I never really liked his character, his importance, or anything he represented. RDJ was fantastic as him throughout, but he was easily my least liked character. The death was obvious since they've been teasing him dying in the line of service since the first Avengers. But man once that ring floats out into the lake and he tells his daughter he loves her (which what is up with having RDJ interact with children so much in this series) I lost my bias towards him for a minute. Also, HOW THE **** DID HE GET THE STONES?!
Off Screen Stuff. I felt like there was a bunch of developments off screen. Nothing absolutely major, but things that feel weird not seeing and being privvy to or made for weird pacing.

Re: Avengers: End Game
Current figures as of this morning.
Avengers is officially the second highest grossing film of all time unseating Titanic from that number 2 spot finally.
1) Avatar $2,776,345,279
2) Avengers: Endgame $2,238,477,849
Now all that's left is chasing down Avatar for that top spot. It's also moved up to number 7 on the all time domestic list having made $631,977,849. We'll see if it has enough steam to get close to Force Awakens' $936,662,225 domestic record.Comment

1. She was doing what she does; helps protect everyone except Earth basically
2. She's so powerful that it probably would have made the movie boring if she were in it the whole way lol
Re: Hawkeye, it was a great opening scene. I kinda laughed on second viewing though when he looked up and saw his family was gone and then continued looking around the farm as if looking from a different angle would change anything. I know people would probably respond the same way in real life, but there was literally nowhere that they could have possibly been hiding; it was just open space.NFL: Bills

Avengers: End Game
Not a massive Marvel fan, but really enjoyed infinity war. This movie was weird, but anytime someone tries to tackle time travel “for real”, it can fall apart super quick.
My favorite scene was easily Thor and the rock dude in his fishing village house. Thought Thor was pretty good all the way through.
Captain America was annoying for me. Super weird when he commented on his own butt. It seemed like Marvel wanted to push the “everyone loves Cap and his butt” angle more than....well anyone.
It also kinda seems that now that they can go back in time and fix things....what are you gonna do now? **** goes south, just send the hulk back in time?
Also what was with Cap giving his shield to the Bird guy? I honestly didn’t even know they where friends, yet alone chosen as the next Cap.
I dunno I though infinity war was a ton better.

In the comics, Steve loses his powers to the Tesseract, instantly becomes as old as he would be without the serum, and chooses Sam to be the new Captain America.

Re: Avengers: End Game
Yeah, plus the thing to know Doc is that I think this film's greatest asset is servicing all 21 films that appeared before it, and rewarding those who saw them from beginning to end. That doesn't mean if one misses out on some, several or all that one also can't like, appreciate, or understand Endgame... but I won't pretend like that's not also the most appropriate and recommended route to enter this film with.
You're not wrong about the time travel thing, though. At first, I thought they were maybe out of Pym Particles so they can't go back in time anymore, but I guess they still have many so they are now able to. I'm a bit iffy on the fact that a lot of things could potentially be reversed if **** goes south. It kind of reminds me of after the first Avengers film coming out, what they were going to do with the standalone films since they could always pull an Ant-Man and say: "We should call the Avengers." I guess they found their way to do their thing, but it always came off as a little bit forced when they were left out.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Avengers: End Game
Come on guys this concept has been explained already it's really not that hard to follow. No they haven't set up something where "**** goes south" so they go back in time and fix it. They already clearly established you cannot change the past. It happened, it's over there's no going back and fixing it. The time travel in this movie served a specific one time purpose. They simply recovered the stones to undo Thanos' snap and it killed Tony doing it and according to the Russo's permanently damaged Hulk's arm. Time travel was the absolute LAST resort that they took only after all else failed.Comment

Re: Avengers: End Game
They can't change the past, it's been established, what would be the point of time travel now? The only possible reason to do it would be to bring back young Cap or a different Tony and considering they JUST used time travel, I'm going to assume that's not going to be a problem for a few Avenger flicks and Steve nor Tony will probably be coming back any time soon if ever so they have no reason to do that even more.Comment
