Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
Random one I thought of after hearing a mix with Katy Perry's chorus:
Katy Perry is the best female popstar. Now, not the most talented (I'd say probably Christina) nor do I think she'll be Madona successful...
..but she's the best I've ever heard because I can actually listen to her popular songs at parties and not want to kill myself or whomever put them on at the party.
It doesn't matter the song something of hers always gets stuck in my head. Helps she's nice eye candy (for me anyway)HELLO BROOKYLN.

Watching her videos, and knowing her lyrics are pretty much all about sex, makes her that much better.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
To whoever said MMLP was Eminem's best album, I think that's a pretty popular opinion. MMLP is considered one of the best rap albums of all time.Comment

I personally prefer Recovery, honestly. Not that MMLP isn't great, though.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
Recovery is good, but MMLP is on another level. I prefer the hungry/angry Eminem to the drugged up/Encore version and the current version.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
Marshall Mathers LP
Constant Listens - Kill You, Stan, Who Knew, Way I Am, Marshall Mathers, Drug Ballad
Good Songs - Kim, Bitch Please II, Criminal
The Rest - Remember Me, Real Slim Shady, I'm Back, Under the Influence
Recovery
Constant Listens - Talkin' 2 Myself, Goin' Through Changes, No Love, Space Bound, 25 To Life, You're Never Over, Love The Way You Lie
Good Songs - Almost Famous, Cinderella Man, Not Afraid, Cold Wind Blows, Seduction
The Rest - On Fire, Won't Back Down, WTP, So Bad, Untitled
So for me that's MMLP with 6/3/4 and Recovery with 7/5/5.
Now, obviously that's all my opinion, but for top-to-bottom quality, I'll take Recovery. The both have songs I don't care for, but Recovery has a larger portion of songs that I can listen to without skipping a single one.
Also, that's without listening to any of the songs for a double check. It's been a bit since I've listened to MMLP so those are just the rankings based on memory.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
You can tell from my name that I am all about hip hop so I come with observations that I have noticed in more than 25+ years of listening and watching the growth of hip hop as it tried to make itself go from not respected to one of the most powerful cultures and genres since the birth of rock n roll. But the excessive tattooing from the neck down to the wrists and loud jewelry to me is an even more obvious sign of how bad the talent is today that some of these artist desperately need their exteriors to standout because their talents wont. I'm old enough to remember hearing my parents tell me that they didn't get rap music and how their generation was where the great music died. Now I am them.
I don't knock anyone who can find a way to get their cash, but please stop trying to compare the quality of artist in today's younger generation of hip hop with those of 10+ years ago. The platform for today's hip hop artist compared to those of a decade ago and then some, is much different. I do respect the independent spirit of the Wiz Khalifas, Currensy's and other artists, but the excessive reliance on the weed smoking and loud tats as well as the obvious lack lust rapping skills make it such an apples and oranges type of comparison when comparing this era's hip hop artists to those of back in the mid 90's.
What's sad is these guys aren't all ignorant and stupid when you hear them do interviews, which makes it worse because it truly means they are willing to dumb themselves down just for more fans and another dollar. Where's the integrity at? Where is the dignity? Believe me I get it, and I know in other forms of entertainment, actors and actresses are willing to take some roles where they must dumb themselves down too, but with hip hop being the birthplace of the expression "Keep it Real", I see a whole lot of fake today.
You have artist who scream "F the police" that used to be a part of the police force/sheriffs department and that's overlooked because "he makes some really banging songs". You have artists who are all for the "stop snitching" campaign, that have not only snitched, but the snitching is documented with police reports and court case docket numbers. Keep it real? Please.
Now that's not to say that some aren't legit and real, but for the past few years, I've seen so many that are all too willing to change up there stance on the realness in an attempt to have another chance for the cash grab. Hip hop is the realest genre of music because its the only genre of music that can cost you your life by something you say in 1 verse of a song, which I feel is a negative part of the genre. But it's foundation was not to be about violence and foolishness and now in it's attempt to remain relevant, hip hop has been willing to change its stripes to appeal to the masses. Good business plan. But how far and many times is it willing to change it's stripes before some of those stripes are gone and no longer resembling what they used to stand for?
Pac was one of the greatest actors I've ever seen. The fake most of the time. Dude was a dancer, an actor, a poet and not nearly as hard as he tried to be. Pac was the quintessential good boy trying to be bad, creating controversy just for the hell of it. I was never a fan, but he's another example of a legend from back in the day bringing the fake.
The Game is an example of someone today who is fake as hell, but I love the guy's music. I don't care if he lives what he writes, the guy makes good music. Keeping it real or not.
Finally, for every Rakim, you have a Lupe. For every Soulja you have a Vanilla Ice. There is great music today and there was crappy music back then, so the "back in the day" argument just sounds like a bunch of bitterness to me, which sucks because with a name like Illmatic I automatically want to agree with you (and BnG, who is a poster I respect on here a hell of a lot). One thing I can say is the overall quality was probably better then, but there is still so much good music in the genre today. To me, the keeping it real aspect of it has little to do with it though.
I guess that's the point of this thread though. To disagree.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
Another random thought to fit this thread that came to mind...
I think the mark of a great song is if you can listen to just the instrumental of the song and it's still enjoyable. If the song still sounds awesome sans vocals, you have yourself a great song. If the song is dry, boring, and redundant, unless it's meant to be 90% vocalist (Which is fine for certain types of songs) it stands out as being a mediocre to average song.

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
Neither of these make very much sense to me. I don't understand why the context of the music has to be broken up. If you start taking things away with no regard to the context of everything involved then that is cheating the quality of the artist and their music as a whole. There are plenty of great artists out there who know how to put the pieces together perfectly, but if you break down their stuff its relatively ordinary.Comment

Re: Your opinions in Music that many would disagree with
I said it I really don't feel like its a popular opinion. Many people I talk with prefer his album after that or his current one. After Em put out the album after MMLP I stopped listening to him , i thought he turned a different direction for no reason or just to be funny or whatever.Comment

Just to do a quick check/comparison of the two albums -
Marshall Mathers LP
Constant Listens - Kill You, Stan, Who Knew, Way I Am, Marshall Mathers, Drug Ballad

To me it took too long for him to realize he needs to go back 10 years+ . but I'm like that we alot of artist i like just because I like them doesn't mean I'm not critical of their work. For instance Jay Z who i really with a passion. I couldn't stand Blueprint 3 i didn't even buy it - someone gave me a burned version. I listened to it and forgot about it. After what he had done for American Gangster I thought it would be a good album, but it wasn't. But he's been slacking for awhile at least on retail. some of his freestyle or mixtape stuff is alot better that don't make retails.Comment
