Also, why wait for ps3. On that day you know the xbox 360 will drop in price to undercut sony even more.

No way sony will come out in america till at least fall of next year.

Its funny people complain about a full featured very powerful machine at 400 but have no problem dropping 2 grand on a tv or buying 10 games in a year (500-600). To save money, just join a game renter club and rent your games.

They know that more $300 systems will sell than $400, meaning that less people will have the HDD. The biggest question is how much are memory cards? Say a 64MB card is 40 bucks, why wouldn't you spend the extra 60 for the HDD? Releasing 2 systems is a mistake. The HDD could end up being a flop.
Right on EG. The hard drive IMO now becomes as worthless as the HD on the PS2 was.

Why is that? They are most likely gonna use it to the fullest extent with all the new generation technology coming out, if you think about it...a lot of people wil get the 400 dollar package.

What's getting me is...people actually made themselves believe that a brand new, spiffy next-gen console with the new graphics and a hard drive would only cost $300.

Why did you kid yourselves? IT'S A NEW CONSOLE WITH NEW GRAPHICS.

Didn't the old XBox cost $299?!

I went into preserving this thing knowing I would be giving up 399.

Unless the hard drive is part of the core system, I too feel it will not be fully utilized.

It is for this reason that I think Microsoft is taking a step backwards. The PS2 has an optional hard drive, yet it generally goes un-used and is not developed for, specifically.

By making the 360 have the hard drive seperate developers are not able to fully implement it in their development. And if a hard drive is going to be required for games, why would Microsoft make its purchase optional? A CD (DVD, etc.) Drive and processor are required, but Microsoft isn't selling them seperately. Why is the hard drive any different?

It is for this reason that I think the hard drive will be utilized less on the 360 than it is on the current Xbox, which is both unfortunate and an indication that Microsoft is taking a step backwards, IMO.

Why make the hard drive optional if it's going to play a large role in the development of Xbox games? The fact that it is optional makes me think that it won't be playing a large role, because selling required hardware as an optional accessory is not how you do good business IMO.

The PS3 has built-in wireless internet, up to 7 bluetooth wireless controllers simultaneously, 6+ USB ports, compact flash and SD slots, a slot-loading drive, two built-in HDMI ports, backwards compatibility to the PS1 and PS2, a super-fast built-in Gigabit ethernet port, and a next generation high def Blu-Ray disk drive. These are all the features that are found BUILT-IN to the PS3 that the Xbox360 does not have. I'd say that's a lot more features at a better value if Sony sells the system at $400.

That's not my issue, as Jimplication stated as well, making 2 systems means that the HDD is not required to play the games. Meaning, that developers will not develop games for it, as the "cheaper" system does not have it. If they make games requiring the HDD, then what's the point of releasing a cheaper system? It's a mistake and this slip up could cost MS the lead they wanted in the next gen console war.

which is $200 more. Note you miss added up top. It should be $740 not $860

With 1080p, a HDMI port, an internal wireless adapter, Blu-Ray support, and more power?

                        ABSO-F****ING-LUTELY.

I was going to get a 360, but they just overshot their value with the pricing announced today. PS3 appears to be truly high end, and I will be spending the $$$ for that piece of truly advanced equipment (and I wouldn't have if all MS did was give me a HDD and 1 wireless controller for $300).
Been gaming since the Atari 2600, and hells no I won't stop!!!

                          Re: Xbox 360 Pricing Announced

The money is a non-issue for me. $400, $800, $1200....no big deal. Of course I'd rather it be $299, but oh well... I can't believe they list the 20 GB HD accessory at $100 though! LOL.

Anyhow, as I get older I've become less and less willing to spend $400 on something I use for 3-4 hours (at most) per week. I guess part of it's that I'm just too busy to game as much as I used to. I do know that I'd rather put that $400 towards finishing my basement, painting a few of the rooms in my house, cleaning/staining my deck etc....

It's odd how the mind works, but I see the tag at $299 and think "Great, no problem" and then I see it for only $100 more at $399 and think "Not worth it. I'll just stick with my Xbox for now". Go figure.

Ok, so college kids blow 50 bucks a weekend. That means we have to have 8, yes 8 NO SPENDING weekends to have a 360 . 9 to own a game. 10 to play a game with one friend. 12 for 3 friends.

I'm upset that the HarDrive isn't standard and to get what most people will want will cost $400.
