EDIT: It says on the MS support website that you should make sure that your system is set to the right date and time. Mine wasn't, but what would that have to do with my system freezing???
    Heelsman;

Sounds like your system was just like mine. Like I said before, I played alot of NCAA on play now and 5 games into the first season. I received my first DDE error on game 6. I kept receiving DDE's peroidically, then steadily. Then, the errors became unreadable disc and also the same disc error you received, place disc in 360 console.

Finally, today, every game had the errors.

I didn't get the 3 red rings of light, yet.

Let's keep track of this. Should be interesting. The MS rep told me 3 days for the box, 3 days to try to fix it, if they can't, they 'll send a new unit. I thought mine was a bad disc tray.

What type of disc drive did you have? I had a Samsung.

According to a few polls in the NCAA area, the drive that was creating some problems was the Samsung.

I found this over at xbox.com

If you look a the difference on this website. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...nical_Problems it is noted that the "newer model samsung/toshbia drives have a harder time reading burnt DVD+R DL.

"With the third production run of the Xbox 360, the original Hitachi-LG DVD drive (model GDR-3120L) was replaced with a slightly quieter Toshiba/Samsung DVD drive (model TS-H943). The Hitachi-LG DVD drive model has been known to read burnt DVD+R DL discs better than the newer Toshiba/Samsung drives, and is much less picky about DVD Burner/Media compatibility. Phillips drives were only used in pre-release development Xbox 360s.[4"

I believe it is note a coding problem but rather a disk "quaility" manufacturing problem by EA. The Toshiba/Samsung are having a harder time trying to read the disks. I noticed w/ the Samsung that my 360 would be spinning faster (noise) before I got the DDE. W/ the Hitichi the spinning noise is even throught out the game. The Samsung is treating the game like a DVD+R DL disc.

            Just someone's 2 cents.

Really? I could always tell when my 360 was going to freeze/DDE, because the fans would stop blowing and I wouldn't even hear the disc spinning at all...

                Interesting.

I checked with MS today and they said they shipped out the box to UPS today. UPS doesn't have the box, yet.

I've got the tracking information for the arrival and departure of the box.

I also asked the CS rep if it was true that sometimes you receive refurbished consoles. She said thats true because gamers want their machines back quickly.

I hope that doesn't happen with mine.

I also asked her for the repair center to look at the hardware. I was concerned mine was headed down the same path as yours. She said normally when games start freezing and receiving error notices, they start looking at the hardware as well.

I just copied and pasted another persons thoughts.

                  Re: Official 360 Problems

Coffin arrived via UPS yesterday around 1PM. I asked UPS guy if all I need to do was call UPS back. He said he is in the industrail park around my corner between 3:00-4:30pm.

Opened the box and the only thing that wasn't in there was the sealing tape. I rushed to our local post office and they taped it up for me. I raced to the industrail park at 3:30 and found the UPS truck. This morning I looked at the tracking website and there was a departure scan at 11:15 last night in this area. I hope the 360 shows up Monday or Tuesday in Texas.

The only fly in the ointment is that I won't be able to dl Texas Hold Em for free. I've already contacted CS about that to see if they could make an exception. The answer was no.

                  Oh well, I tried.

My replacement 360 arrived just awhile ago. It took only 8 business days for it to arrive.

The manufacture date on it is May 9th, 2006. First thing I noticed when turning it on, is that it is significantly quieter than my launch 360 was.

Well I got the 3 red lights 2 nights ago. Googled the problem and found that technique to get the system to show the eroor code. (i didnt get one on screen as the deck will not power on and , if it does, it freezes at the logo)

The error code was the 0102 (unknown hardware failure) I googled again and saw some "hot air" gun technique for re-sodering the motherboard. (on youtube) The problem for most, is that some chips were sodered poorly during production and after enough wear and tear (heat)....they begin to break apart from motherboard.Supposedly this is highly effective for the fellas that have no warranty/contract and dont want to pay the $100 or so bucks. I am not going to try it as I have that 2year contract and dont want to void it.

Just wondering what TOTAL time it took for some of you to get a working console back? (from waiting for the box to actual receipt) I I am thinking 2 to 3 weeks? Also read that NO SIG is required for pickup....is that still true for some or most?

I have a few questions for those who experienced that hardware failure (3 red lights) on their Xbox 360 system and had returned their system to Microsoft and got it back fixed up.

When you guys returned your X360 system to MS for repair, did you have to send the hard disk attached to it? And if so, did MS keep the hard disk intact or was all your saved files erased from it?

Any info you all can provide here will be appreciated.

They told me to take off the hard drive, any games that are in the tray(unless they're stuck in there), and remove all the cables.

So you only ship the system, with out attatchments.

I shipped mine out on the 21st, it arrived at the service place in Texas today, should have it back soon.
