This game seems right up my alley. Suprised they chose to release it at the same time RDR was released. Seems like this game should be getting more attention.

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

Finished Episode 1. Playing on Hard since it been recommended by those that have got it early. I love Remedy's brand of storytelling; inner monologue, foreshadowing, very self-aware, and a little intentional cheesiness - it worked in the Max Payne games and it's working here too. Atmosphere is great, and already had a couple white-knuckle moments in combat. You have plenty of resources, especially if you do some light exploration off the critical path, but the way the Taken can sneak up on you, flank, and blend in the shadows can put you on edge. First episode of Night Springs (fake/spoof TV show) is great. Can't wait to view more. Dick Justice and Lords & Ladies were awesome in the Max Payne games. Nice graphics, at times it's stunning. The volumetric, HDR, and indirect lighting steal the show. It looks insane when you shoot a flare. Voice acting is good - wish the lip-syncing was better, but it's not to distracting. Also, wish you could turn off elements of the HUD, at least the objective, it's to in your face.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

Only played a little bit of this tonight (played mostly RDR). Liking it so far. Playing on hard as well. Maybe it's because I was playing RDR but I'm having trouble adjusting to the camera in Alan Wake. I feel like I'm constantly having to correct it. I probably should just let it go on its own and not fight it. Anyway, the only games that really scared the crap out of me at times when I played them were Resident Evil and Bioshock. I expect to add this one to the list. Already gotten goosebumps a couple of times.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

It's apparently a cake walk on Normal with encounters becoming boring after a couple Episodes, because you don't feel threatened in the slightest, and there's far less tension. I've seen this mentioned by many people, and even some reviews recommended playing on Hard. I remember reading in an interview where Remedy stated that Normal was Easy, and Hard was Normal in comparison to other games.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Hmmm, from some of the posts, I probably should have started on hard. It's not super easy on normal, but every time i get surrounded I end up popping a flare or throwing a flashbang to save my ***.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

 The Good
 - I just finished the second "episode" so far. I LOVE the pacing and the storytelling. Has me really into the game.
 - Speaking of "episodes". LOVE that concept. LOVE It - down to the part where there is end credit music following the completion of each episode. The showing what previously happened on the last episode before the new one starts? NICE! Just like I am watching a TV show.
 - The Twilight Zone show on the TV - "Night Falls". I just saw two episodes so far - and each one was less than 5 minutes long yet it was 13X more entertaining than Lost Planet 2.
 - The graphics are clean and attractive.
 - Voice acting is good.
 - The atmosphere is well done. The music is awesome although the ambient sounds could be better(Dead Space was the best at that)
 - Although they can be a bit stereotype - ish...I really like the characters.

 The Bad
 - The dialogue - at times - is campy. Alan is literally in a living nightmare but is amazingly calm and even finds time to make some lightly comical remarks about his pending doom. Hmmmmm
 - I like the characters - but Alice's fear of the dark is juvenile. Good Grief - how does Alan put up with that woman ? She freaks out like a 2 years old in the dark.
 - Why exactly am I collecting Coffee Thermoses..especially when I am being stalked by shadowy ax murderers as I am looking for my missing wife? Seems like an odd choice for gameplay to me.

I am enjoying this game emphatically. If it wasn't for Red Dead I would have probably been halfway finished by now.Comment

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

There's no actual easy? They just made normal, hard and nightmare?

I didn't really read any reviews for this (or previews for that matter),only the closing comments. I have zero expectations good or bad but my guess is that it'll be like ObsCure mixed with Deadly Premonition just with 100000x the production values and minus the cheesyness. (Though the cheesyness helped make those games great)Comment

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

 Yes - you are correct.

On a side note - the down-loadable content that comes when you purchase the game? It tells you it won't be available until July 28th. I had to chuckle at that as I see how determined game companies are to prevent you from selling that game back.Comment

 Re: Alan Wake (360)

Finished episode one... It was just OK. At this point I'm kind of glad I rented it instead of bought it, but I'm still hoping it gets better like others have said. I'd probably be more into it if I didn't buy Red Dead on Tuesday, but as of now it is taking a backseat to RDR.

Really like the whole episode thing and pretty much agree with others' likes and dislikes. But one thing that's making me crazy is the camera. I don't know what it is but it doesn't feel right to me. Is there any way to change the camera settings? Or maybe it's just because I'm not used to it.Comment
