I bought it and I'm glad I did. I wouldn't have gotten through it in a rental period. I played on the difficulty above normal and it took me a while to get through it (playing a couple of hours a day). Plus there's going to be new downloadable levels (I think the first one's free when you buy a new copy). I'll probably play thorugh it again at some point on the harder difficulty.

I really liked the game. Great story, great visuals. A little repetivite in parts (but what games isn't?)

Overall, it was worth a purchase - at least for me.

I say no. I just rented it, had the option of 3 days or 7 - I chose 7 and I beat it in 3 play-sessions over 2 days. I liked it, but it's over and I'm not going to touch it again.

I also don't want a sequel because I wasn't a fan of the light then shoot gameplay; the max payne games were longer, more fun and seemed to have more variation.

I do like the setting and the characters, but it kind of makes me wish they went a more hybrid rpg route and had it open world like I believe they originally planned to.

Took them way too long to release that game imo.

It is a solid rental though with a cool story and atmosphere, so it's worth renting, jut not even close to buying as far as I'm concerned.

            Re: Alan Wake (360)

FINALLY got around to playing this. I rented it on release day (game pass) and haven't touched it until last night...lol (just juggling too many games right now).

Anyway, I've finished the first two episodes. It didn't quite reach my pre-release expectations, but it's decent and I do like the way they unfold the story. The story itself is pretty good and I really like the episodic set-up to it...kind of draws you in a bit better.

Some of the "scares" feel kind of cheap or weak, but overall they seem to deliver that part well. Good creepy atmosphere...though I wish at times they would go for nearly complete silence, rather than the near constant sound or music. Either way, I like how by the end of episode 2 I kept thinking I was seeing the taken coming when it was just shadows, so overall it works for me.

I do see the gripes about repetitive game play, but hopefully the story and atmosphere keep that from being an issue for me as I go on (too early for me to tell either way). So far, so good.

Yeah, after Ep 1 I'm feeling the same way...It's fun, and will be a cool story, but far from engaging gameplay (the fighting feels repetitive all ready)...

Will be cool to play through, but glad I got it from Gamefly

Well, it's official...the game play has just gotten more annoying than fun for me. It feels like I'm just working to get to the next plot point and am not getting any enjoyment from the game play experience on the way.

It's like two different games: you play through these repetitive paths to get rewarded with the other game which is the story. If they could have found a way to make the story portion more interactive, and not make the entire game play focus as "burn, shoot, repeat" it would be so much better (IMO).

I did want to know what happened, so I just read the story. It's a shame because I think this game was an opportunity missed. Great story but just not enough going on in-between to make it worth it for me.

Despite my gripes and quitting early, I would recommend playing it to anyone. The concept (light vs dark) and story are both very well done and others might be less put off by the mechanics taken to move it forward. If you are, then you've likely got a pretty nice experience in store. Not a terrible game...just not for me, I guess.

I got through the 2nd chapter and gonna try the 3rd. It's "walk through the woods, kill things, get to end", but the suspense and story have me wondering what's gonna happen. We'll see if the 3rd one makes me want to play more or not.

Chapter 3 introduces a nice twist, but it drags on for longer than it should. Chapter 4 however, is amazing.

Yeah, I enjoy the story and atmosphere. Once I was walking through and some birds flew off a trash can making a huge noise...I jumped in my seat and got chills lol

I'll definitely try and just beat this then, since there are only 6 I'm a third of the way...

I see no reason why anyone would play through on Nightmare level unless they're just going for achievements...IMO making the enemies harder to kill would just make it less fun.

                        Like the manuscript pages?

IGN reviewed the DLC giving it a 9.0

The story is as warped as ever with taught writing and a style that never becomes too self-serious. Even if Alan Wake didn’t thrill you on your first playthrough I still recommend giving this add-on a try.

The Signal was damn good. They definitely upped the difficulty as well. My dumb *** though read an achievement wrong, so I kept my 360 on all night to beat the chapter while I was doing other things. I thought you just had to beat the episode without reloading it, didn't realize it also meant not dying. Ugh.

I now can't wait for The Writer.

Are the DLC eps pretty much the same length as one of the 6 episodes that compose the game?

I ended up selling my copy before the DLC was released. I would definately like to see the story part of it, but am glad I dont have to actually play it. Toward the end of my playthough I just ran from check point to checkpoint without fighting the baddies because it was so boring and repetitive
