I had the same feeling after playing through it the first time. On my 2nd play through, I turned off the lights, turned up the sound, took my time, and enjoyed it a lot more. Not a definite buy, but I think I'd get it when the price drops some time later.

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
I would agree, but just to point out, the demo is a slightly tweaked version compared to the retail game. The demo gives you a few more tools that you wouldn't normally get at that point in the game, because they wanted the player to have a little bit more to play around with.I guess the main difference is the difficulty. Thirty minutes into System Shock 2 you can't shoot fire and lighting from one hand and spew bullets from the other. You would likely be out of bullets and running from zombie-like creatures. The games are similar, but SS2 leans more toward survival-horror while Bioshock leans more toward shooter-horror.
Also, the zombies in SS2 were way more creepy in the way that they talked. Some of the things the bad guys in Bioshock say are kind of amusing.
Edit:
If I remember correctly...Even if you had bullets in SS2, you may miss your target if your stats sucked in that area which only added to the tension.
If anybody is interested, here's how you can play the demo on Hard.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
Well I finally got to play it on my lunch break. The graphics were fantastic, but more importantly, like many of you have pointed out, the atmosphere/ambiance is beyond anything I've experienced. Just an amazing creepy feeling overall. Very, very well done! Not quite a must buy for me though, I'm pretty poor and so far only NBA 2k8 and Halo 3 are must buys. GTA4 would have been, but its delayed.Comment

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
To enable hard go to your gamer profile in the dashboard and then change your default game settings. Go to general, then change your difficulty to hard.
Start up the Bioshock Demo.
Hard should be highlighted when you have the option to select your difficulty. Make sure not to move the cursor or you will not be able to select hard again unless you hit B and then return.

I think now that the demo has been out everyone and their mother has downloaded it, so I'm going to finally try tonight.Comment

Tried the demo. Played for maybe 20-30 minutes and deleted it. Not really impressed. Won't be buying it.Comment

to each their own I guess but even if it's not your type of game, I don't see how you couldn't be the least bit impressed by the game. It just oozes quality.PS4: aBayBates

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
It was just nothing new to me. I've seen great atmosphere before in games, nothing new there. The gameplay wasn't anything special - it didn't really stick out from other FPS games. To me it just seemed like another shooter - nothing I haven't seen before.Comment

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
I would have agreed with you yesterday, but after giving the demo a 3rd run through on hard mode, it's starting to grow on me. I like the choices you are given on how to advance. You can hack the security drones, use the environment to your advantage, go run and gun, or whatever. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to sneak up on people or a cover system.
I've gone from no interest at all, to thinking about buying when the price drops, to now thinking about picking it up next week.Comment

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
Thats curious. I respect your opinion, but to say this game has great atmosphere but because you've seen great atmosphere in the past this isn't impressive doesn't make much sense. Thats like saying a great movis isn't impressive because you've seen great movies in the past. I thought a great movie was a great movie.

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
I am back and forth with buying.
It has a great atmosphere and everything, but can it have tons of replay value?
I'm not sure I want to buy a game that will get my $60 and only that. With the other games like Halo 3 and GTA and Mass Effect, I might get 100 hours out of it.
Bioshock, while great, seems to be a play through a few times on the various difficulties and then ditch.Comment

Re: Bioshock (PC/360)
That was far and away the best demo I have ever played. I loved the enviroments, the presentation of the story, the water effects (the best I have seen), and the smoothness of the gameplay.
It appears that there is a quite a bit of depth to gameplay as well. It seems you will be able to attack sitations in different ways.
This was a game that I am keeping my eye on to a game that I am thinking of buying the first day.Comment
