Not that it matters. Toshiba is coming out with a dual player next year that will play both HD-DVD and Blue Ray discs. And I think a lot of manufacturers will follow suit.

All the negative press surrounding the PS3 launch just screams 'rush job' by Sony. The 360 forced them to release their new console at least 12 months too early.
I'm sure Sony will be able to patch some of the issues and I'm even more sure that Japan would buy every unit even if the PS3 was nothing more than a dirty diaper.
But for me, I will be staying as far away as possible from the PS3. It has a lot of problems right now, it's incredibly expensive and the launch list is pathetically low. And of the games that will be available at launch many of them are getting horrible reviews.

EDIT: Here's a link. Not too conclusive but it gives you an idea.

"It does matter" because Sony is betting Blu Ray is the next format King. I also agree with ya and is a great point that Microsoft has been pulling Sony's strings for the last two years.

p.s. Even with a Toshiba Dual Player it also dilutes the value of BR.

You're right. I guess it will matter for those people that feel the Blue Ray player is the last straw needed to purchase a PS3.
You could buy a 360 with an HD-DVD player and it will have better quality and it'll be cheaper (or close to). Not only that, but the 360 has an excellent library right now.
That's not to say that the PS3 won't have a good library down the road but I think it's rediculous to buy a PS3 off of Ebay for $1500 when you could get a 360 with an HD player and a wealth of games for that cost. And then in 3-6 months you could buy a PS3 for the regular price.

Any article about blu-rays quality based on its launch titles is OUTDATED. Period. In just a few months, BD-50 discs are out, VC-1 codec is being used more often, the PQ on BD-25 single layer discs has gotten better, etc.

I don't mind personal preference, but misinformation annoys me.

My suggestion to those interested in HD movies is to bookmark this site: highdefdigest.com They review HD-DVDs and Blu-rays. There is no format bias. The reviews are plentiful and brutally honest.

One of those links had a quote by a guy from highdefdigest.com and he said that HD-Dvd looked better.

They said on the news tonight that the PS3 is not working properly, that it's doesn't play most of the older games that had been announced. Has anyone heard anymore about this?

Pulled from old reviews. As I said in the last post, in just a few months, blu-ray has taken steps forward:

"Like its HD DVD counterpart, Warner Home Video presents 'ATL' on Blu-ray in a 2.35:1 widescreen 1080p/VC-1 transfer. The results are, predictably, identical on both formats. And that's a good thing, as the film really looks pretty darn great, with a nice three-dimensional picture that reminded me of just how superior high-def can look over plain old standard definition DVD. Regardless of a film's subject matter, when you're hot, you're hot."

Its only about 200 games from their entire library (is my understanding), most of them are not game breakers (ie no bg music in this spot), and Sony is expected to put out a firmware upgrade eventually to take care of these.

Let them have their fun, this is what they do. None of them are interested in a PS3, just posting anything negative from xbox affiliated blogs. I personally don't know why they keep posting if you're not interested move on.

who cares if the next-gen systems can't play all the old gen games? you are paying $400 or $500-600, for a "new" system, maybe I'm crazy but I want to play the "next-gen games" not the games I've been playing for years. Since I got the 360 There has been only one regular x-box game(WE-9)in my 360. But now that I got fifa 07 I don't even play that. When or if I get a PS3 it will be the same way. I'm not gonna be popping in socom I'll be playing "Resistance" or some new game.

Basically the same thing 360 owners said , including myself, when the "360 isn't BC!!" arguments came out.
What's different is all along Sony said they would be fully BC, which we now know isn't true.

No one said there wouldn't be a patching process. The discussion was on the
"We are fully BC" now "We are not fully BC" and how when MS said no full BC they were blasted by fanboys. Now Sony took a while to let the truth get out and it's "Oh there will be a patch process"

                                Ironic.
