Re: Playstation 3 Information, hardware, games discussion Part II

The PS2 worked out just fine for Sony, it's still selling well. The delay isn't news itself, the news is Sony finally confirming it. Most of us were already expecting it this holiday season anyway. I think Sony will be just fine as long as they don't delay the PS3 into 2007. They also need Blu)Ray to catch on this summer and gain some popularity among the early adopting consumer community.

I was just simply commenting on "the game is up" comment.

He's saying with all the stuff PS3 has, it will blow the xbox out of the water. However, due to Sony's track record, who can believe him?

Well I guess all I can tell you is not to believe them. The only thing you can do now is wait and see.

Do you guys think the PS3 Blue-Ray player for Movie purposes is as strong of a buying point as the DVD player in PS2 was at the time?

            Nope.

Because with PS2, EVERYONE could make use of the DVD player.

With the Blu-Ray, only people who have HDTV's can use them. And then that can get broken up even further to HDTV owners with HDMI inputs, as not all HDTV's have the input.

No. The VHS to DVD jump was a HUGE difference maker in home theater. Blu)Ray and HD-DVD are obviously better than DVD, but without a HDTV, it won't impress you too much. People aren't really gonna care right away to replace all their DVD's with HD-DVD or Blu)Ray.

I'm not sure if Blu)Ray and HD-DVD can coexist at the moment, so we'll likely have to see which format the people choose, if any.

EDIT: LOL, sorry I misunderstood your question. I'm not sure if people will be buying PS3's strictly because it's a Blu)Ray player. They'll buy it for the gaming, and if/when Blu)Ray succeeds, then yes, I can see that happening.

Yes, your PS3 will connect to your HDTV through components, but you won't be 1080p standard because there isn't a HDMI feed. That makes little difference anyway so don't worry about it. 720p and 1080i aren't anything to complain about. As far as the Blu)Ray player, I don't know. I'm sure you've heard the news about HDMI, Hollywood, and next-gen DVD.

That's great news. I know I have DVI is this anything like HDMI or should I just use component hookup instead?

For those people that are thinking of buying a plasma or LCD you might want to hold onto your money. Canon and Toshiba have been working together for quite a few years now developing a flatscreen TV that has better picture than CST monitors called SED.
Not only will it blow away what Plasma or LCD offer it has the potential to be twice as cheap (or cheaper) once they go into mass production.
IGN did a review on it during the last gadget trade show and said it's unreal.
After reading quite a bit about it on the net I think I'll happily wait until this comes out.

Check out how the technology works.

Thanks for the heads up Money99. I only paid $500 for my 27" Widescreen LCD HDTV with a 8ms refresh rate.

I read awhile ago that Microsoft and Samsung where developing wireless HD hookups which would produce the same results as HDMI anyone recollect this.
