Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Impressions Thread
This game is simply amazing. The shear number of things to do is astonishing.
I usually don't like RPG's like others in here.
Right now I have joined all 3 guilds and also the Dark Brotherhood or whatever.
This game can consume so much of your time its not even funny. I'm looking forward to delving even deeper into this wonderful game.Comment

Originally posted by dubplateNope. I have 5. I keep swimming around the lake but the green arrow keeps pointing to one of the fish I've already killed. I refuse to move on until I complete this quest. Despite this, I love this game.
A big duh on my part. I misread your question. I did get the scales from that fish. I've killed 5 and I have 5 scales. I don't know what's going on.Comment

Originally posted by HMMurdock311That's odd. Worst problem I had with that quest was one of the fish somehow ended up in a rock an di couldn't kill it. I had to start over from an older save. That quest reward is a must for my wee Wood Elf Thief.Comment

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Impressions Thread
I posted this in the other Oblivion discussion thread and decided to put it here to since this one has way more activity. Just curious if you guys have
any thoughts on this...........maybe I'm just being over critical.
Other post:
I picked a copy of this up for the 360 yesterday. While the game does look good, I am not sure if I am getting the maximum video quality. It's weird and maybe it's just me. I have my 360 hooked up to a 51" widescreen HDTV. I also verified that the 360 is set to the max video quality (1080I) and that my switch is set to HDTV on the plug on the back side of the system.
Some of the surrounding hills off in the distance and some stuff that is significantly closer to where I'm at just looks more pixelated and less defined than pictures and video I've seen online or even the game on demo at EB.
Like I said, maybe it's just me......can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was just late and my eyes were tired. I was expecting something much better in terms of video quality.
Don't take me wrong here, I'm not bashing the game. From what I've played so far, it's awesome !!! Just puzzled on the video quality.............XBL Gamertag: hoos4974

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Impressions Thread
I played about 4-5 hours yesterday after work with my Argonian, warrior/assassin character. The name I used for him I took straight from Fable, he is called Deathbringer. I think it has a nice ring to it, lol. Yesterday I joined the Dark Brotherhood and the dude the brings gives you your first task says some very sick/funny stuff. The brotherhood was so kind to give me some new gear to wear, very nice. So I completed a few quests for the brotherhood. I killed Rufio in his sleep and then snuck on the pirate ship and killed the Captain and his crew.
At the moment I'm only a level 2 but I'm really close to hitting level 3. Towards the end of my session I got to my first Oblivion gate. What has to be done to close the gate? I think I've killed everything and now I am not sure how to get the hell out of there. This game is just a blast to play with all the exploration and screwing around in the world that can be done. I've barely touched the main quest and have played for almost 9 hours just goofing around and getting thrown in jail numerous times.
BTW, T Crouch your stories about what you are doing in the game are great man. Very good stuff man, hilarious.Last edited by Pratt75; 03-24-2006, 11:21 AM.Comment

To close the first Oblivion gate, you must go to the top of the tower, and deactivate this evil thingamajig.
I like how when you get close to a gate, the sky turns red, drowns everything around you red and the thunderstorm follows. Very cool lighting effects.
One questions: Am I the only one not getting many quest from the fighters or mages guild? I'm assuming later on, they'll give you more things to do but for now, I get hardly nothing. I'm only a few steps from getting into the Arcane University so I guess it'll open up more after I complete that.
As for more impressions, I was estatic to see how tweaked armor and weapons degrading is compared to Morrowind. I was in the middle of a fight with 2 skeleton warriors(btw, those guys are tough) and my damn weapon broke leaving me with just a bow and arrow. I have desruction magic but hardly good enough to take out 2 enemies in a melee fight. I had to leave the scene, go get my weapon repaired and haul it all the way back to where I was. I love that.
When I got back, those 2 skeletons were waiting for me. With my weapon repaired I was ready to do some beating....then my magic charge ran out on my Mace...Argg!! Unlike Morrowind, you weapon does'nt charge up automatically over time. You need soul gems with something in it if you want to recharge something. And that means you need a soul trapping spell which in turn means you need to buy empty sould gems. The things you gotta pay attention to.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
