your armorer skill either has to be better or you can pay someone (in weapons/armor shops or usually a fighters guild porter (or someone else in the FG) can do it)

Is there any use for some of the items in barrels or sacks like pickaxe, shovels, calipers ,tongs, hourglasses, besides selling them for cash.

One of the things that is great about the pc version is the huge variety of mods available. It can get dificult though to know which ones to use or try. Here's a list of some of the mods I'm using, all can be found at http://www.tessource.net/index.php (free registration is required, no email needed I think)

BTmod - Interface changer that you can customize, but at the very least you get a larger inventory screen showing 12 items at a time. This one is a must have.

TF-timemod - slows down time so that one real minute equals 10 in game minutes rather than 30 in game minutes

Axebane's Hunters mod - more meat from deer/wolf kills and their pelts sell for a little more, about 20 septims I think

dyseso's light ingredients - reduces the weight of alchemy ingredients so you can carry more flower/mushrooms/plants

Arena modifications (no level scaling) - no more beating the arena with a level 3 character. The yellow team will not scale around you but be a set level

Darker dungeons/darker nights - reduces visibility in dark areas so that torches actually serve a purpose

SlowerOblivion - it now takes 3 times as long to level up thus increasing the game's length and making you work a bit harder to level

SteelWeaponBalance - Steel weapons are a bit more lethal

Ark's problematic potions - Makes it so that the number of potions effects you can be under at once depends upon your ranking in Alchemy

RareItems - reduces the amount of elven/dwarven/daedra/magical weapons that are dropped by npcs as you level up. Everybody and their brother won't be wearing glass armor as you get up there in level making those items truly rare and reducing the amount of cash you can quickly rake in

Tag's natural wildlife - rats and mudcrabs won't attack you on site. Lots of other tweaks such as many animals will be passive until you approach them too close, then they will attack

Wilderness Creatures/Guard Lists - more variety of creatures spawn including higher level creatures even when you are a low level. You will now run into things that you probably can't kill at lower levels making your best choice be to turn tail and run rather than fight. It also makes the harder creatures spawn away from the roads so you can have a reasonable expectation not to run into ultra deadly stuff on the roads

Lyrondor's combat behavior modification - gives the npc's a wider array of possible moves during combat. They may block more or side step more or a few other things.

Anyone with the pc version have any good mods they are using? It's hard to sort through the mod list for oblivion as it grows larger and larger every day, but those are the major ones I'm using and that I like.

            I've installed so far:

            - the hunters mod
            - interface mod
            - rare items
            - a water mod that makes the water less murky

EDIT - Here's another good source for mods:

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion

I just bought Elder Scrolls and have been playing only 5 hours now, but I am having the most trouble trying to defeat the 3 prisoners at the arena. They are the first fight after making Gladiator.

I am at level 3 and carry a long sword, but I can not beat these three. I even tried shooting a quick arrow across and getting 3X damage for have a sneak attack, but still lost. I have enough potion to refill 3 times, but thats not enough either. Any help would be appreciated.

              Thanks

Good luck concealed...that was by far one of the hardest parts of the game (to me) so far. Of course, Right now I'm almost ready to cure vampirism which was also pretty tough.

All I can say is stick in there... it's tough, but it's possible.

Dang and I thought I was just in-experienced....looks like I'll be up all night. Is there at least a place I can get more potion. I think I bought most of them from the store in the Market next to "Best Defense"

What a game..first time I ever asked for help or debated picking up a strategy guide.

lol... i'm a khajiit, so what i did was cast "Eye Of Fear" on one of em to get em to run and back off for 30 seconds of the fight, by that time i was able to annhilate the 2 others cuz fighting 2 people @ once is 15 x easier than fighting all 3 at once... try casting a spell that'll get em to run off somewhere.

Where do you go to fight in the arena? I'm assuming it's in the imperial city as I have been avoiding it as much as possible so far because the guards always kick my a** when i visit. I am evil and have been running jobs for the dark brotherhood so far so every guard is onto me as soon as i enter any towns. I have played about 12 hours so far and have only been to about 3 different towns, this game is so deep it's rediculous. I'm contemplating starting another quest with a goody two shoes just so i can walk around freely without the guards. No way i'm going to jail though.

also, created a mage over the weekend and enjoyed it a lot. Completely different gameplay from my archer/blade stealth thief. Gonna go back to that char for a while, but it's fun to mix things up

After you finish the quest for vampirism.... you never contract Vampirism again do you? That just sucked tremendously. Not too difficult, but time consuming.

Now I'm at the last 2 quests of the Mage's Guild. Having a ball. The last one, I was trapped up on a big altar with 4 skeleton archers, 2 skeleton swordsman, and 6 Necromancers... they seen me, so there was no way to sneak past them. After thinking for a while, and then going through my inventory, I seen only one item that may help me run through them all.

                                SPOILERS*************

I put on the cowl of the Gray Fox, and just took off running like a mad man for the exit. It was aboslultely hilarious turning around and seeing a line of 10-12 guys running after you. I made it, but just barely, lol. There was no impossible way to defeat those guys. So, why not outrun them.
