I know it was 30-something for the first 3 and then easily 30 for the Dark Brotherhood once they start sending you all over hell and back...and jumping in random dungeons, etc.

I can see playing this for twice as long as I've played it already, yeah. I haven't even done a lot of the random exploration things yet. The dungeon dives I've performed have generally been "oh look a ruin" on the way to my next quest objective.

Thats cool. I dont know why I'm so worried. 80+ hours is great. Plus there is the infinite replay value remaking characters.

Yeah, I've purchased my second house so far, after stashing all of my stuff in a "Mage's Guild" room in the cabinet, and having it all dissappear. I was so upset, lol. At least it wasn't my best stuff.

Down in the basement of one of my homes, there is a portal. Where would that lead? I can't use it yet for some reason... just wondering.

Plus I'm guessing most of us don't blow through it like TCrouch did. I've put in about 10 hours for my current character and the only quest I've done for the main or guilds is a couple fights in the arena.

Open Lock, Water Breathing, Water Walking, Ease Burden...those are typical Alteration spells. I use Ease Burden A LOT...then later you have Lighten Burden, etc. It basically gives you 50 extra pounds of carrying weight to start with, and then ups in increments of 25 with each rank.

If you really want to level it up, just stand somewhere, cast a few ease burdens, rest....cast a few more, rest...etc. I try not to "beat the system" to level it up, but I'll cast a few useless spells here and there if I'm running through the hills or something. I chalk it up to "practice"

Question, after you get the quest to get rid of vampirism, do you just have to hope to find grand sould gems in dungeons? Is there a merchant that sells them?

I'm trying to use my "Use Major Heal" or something like that... but I have to have something up to 25... I can't recall. I want to get it up there, so I can use it. You think casting "Ease Burden" Quite a few times will do the trick?

Major Heal would be Restoration, not Alteration...?

Yeah, I guess my questin is how do I "up" those categories? Such as Restoration, Alteration, etc? I'm not worried about water walking, because I have an amulet that lets me do that. But I do want to up my restoration and such. Will standing still and just using the "Heal Minor Wounds" spell over and over work?

i believe you either use a skill like you mention, or train them up at a trainer

Exactly. Cast spells from that line. Go to your character tab where you can look at your skills and there's a bar showing your progress to the next level in that skill. Cast spells that make it jump the most possible. Using spells from any given line always improves that particular line. Some spells have minimal effect (or don't work at all, like casting an open lock at nothing)...same with swinging a sword at nothing. Doesn't give you improvement unless you are actually doing something. That's why I choose the ease burden spells...lots of magicka used up, but it serves a purpose every time.

Sounds good. What about if you're at the Arena, and use your blade to whip up on the practice dummies? Does that increase your blade skills?

Question for those who have explored the later stages of this game....is a pure mage build viable throughout the entire game as you level?

I don't think so...I think it's only legitimate combat, but I've never stood there for a long time testing the theory.

What purposes do the training facilities serve then? Especially the one at Arcane University? I figured that you could probably stand there and practice, and maybe it would work. But I'm not sure.

I can't freakin wait to get home. We're on spring break next week, so I won't have to do jack during the days, at nights I still have classes, but I'm gaming all week long. I can't wait.
