Question: I had the 360 version of the original game. Never really played it before I traded it in. Picked up the GOTY version for PS3, played it a little then decided I wanted the 360 version for the achievements. Now I picked up the 360 GOTY version, but it has 2 discs. Is the 2nd disc for the expansion stuff?

I assume so. I'm 15 hours in and have been playing with the first disc only thus far.

Anyway, as I keep playing I just get pulled into this game more and more. The atmosphere of the world is amazing. There are parts that genuinely creep me out and then there are parts of the world which is just peaceful to be around.

I closed my first Oblivion gate last night. The experience was kind of meh, I thought compared to the side quests. Its a good thing I got the sneaking down, though.

I think you can "install" the 2nd disc to the hard drive(if you have one). that was even before the latest system update that allowed games to be installed.

I don't have the GOTY edition though, so I may be wrong. the X-pack stuff was originally downloadable(still is) and playable from the hard drive like regular download content. I don't see any other reason it would be on 2 disc. there is enough room on the disc for Oblivion + X-pack.

You install the 2nd disc to the hard drive since I think it has the Expansion and Knights of the Nine on it. I could be wrong about Knights of the Nine.

Thanks guys. I plan on completing this game this time around. I'm going to do my best to never fast travel as well. Can't wait to sink my claws into it again. I just got through the whole character selection screen and the first chapter. Ready to explore the world!!!!!

I remember my first time playing the game. Getting out of the prison...killing a wolf, then watching it roll down a lush green vegetation hill into dark blue water and floating down it.

Quick Question for you guys. Do you level up whenever you get the chance to or do you do it slowly.

Personally I like to take my time so I can get weapons and armor that are more appropriate for my level

Is this a game you can jump right in and play, or do you need to have an understanding of what transpired in previous games?

I'm looking to try out RPGs and heard this is a good one.

It's not really a sequel(story wise) to the others. It's just in the same "universe" as them.

For someone like me that's relatively new to the RPG genre, would this be an OK place to start, or should I look at a game like Mass Effect?

Yeah i think so. While it is an in-depth game it's pretty easy to pick up and play and the story kind of eases you into it imo. I was never a HUGE rpg fan and i had no trouble picking up Oblivion and getting totally addicted to it.

Oblivion would be a better start IMO. unless you are a huge Shooter gamer, then Mass Effect might be better.

the level up system in Oblivion is based on what you do. meaning, if you use nothing but Longblade-type weapons, then your Longblade skill will be better.

Mass Effect is more Experienced based, where you gain Experience "points" and then after you level up, you select what you want to improve. so you could be using a Pistol, but use that Experience to improve your Assault Rifle skill.

both are great games. Oblivion would be better play for the buck. the game is longer and more free-roam than Mass Effect.

                            Both are Action-RPGs, though(not turn-based)

Solidice, thanks for the help, man. Action-RPGs are the ones I prefer, so I appreciate you breaking the two down for me. I'll probably end up going with Oblivion this week after I trade-in NCAA 09.

Any difference between the GOTY and regular editions?

Fallout 3 got me interested in this again. I've had Oblivion for a while, but never got into it because it required lots of hours and I always got into other games instead. I even have a file going, but will probably just start completely over.
