Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion

My order came, only took 3 days. I played far enough to get out of the prison. I'm trying to make my guy a theif/archer/magic type character. I'm not really sure what I'm doing, so there is no telling how it will turn out.

I think it is very well done starting you in the dark dungeon setting. Once you hit the outside work everything looks that much more amazing. I also like how you have a quest to start on from the second you are set loose, I wasn't patient enough to play Morrowind long enough to even get to the main quest.

I'm going to find my way into a city and look around then I guess start on the quest or try to find the thieves guild or something.

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion

Well I haven't played Oblivion in about 4 or 5 months but last night I decided to fire it up and play some. Well after about 1 minute or so into the game the screen just hard freezes on me. I have never had any problems with games freezing before. I reset the game and same thing, did it about 7 or 8 times before I gave up. I did clear the cache too after the first time or two to no avail.

The disc is about 99% pristine so I don't think it's maybe the disc that's causing the trouble. I fired up Rainbow Six and CHOOPs and played for about 5 hours straight without any issues. I have a launch 360, am I on my way down WTF's path of having to get another 360 or is there something about this game that maybe replacing it would fix?

Also, one thing I did change on my 360 was I enabled that 1080p option, although I doubt that would cause freezes since the other games don't freeze.

EDIT - I guess the patch has caused some of these issues, such as freezing. I think what i'll try next is to clear my cache and play without the patch. Check out this URL which talks about other people having freezing problems after the patch - http://forums.operationsports.com/vBulletin/usercp.php

Just got my first DDE with my 360 playing this game. Is it something about this game that makes it more prone to the error or is this cause for concern about the health of my 360?

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion

After a completely unimpressive first two hours of the game(which included getting out of the prison, finding Juaffery(sp?) and searching through a fort), I have officially been sucked into the game. I decided to swing by Imperial City after completing the first task of the main storyline, before I know it I've spent about 3 hours completing a side-quest and joining the theives guild. Then I spend another 5 hours gaining a rank in the theives guild and doing a couple more side quests. I'm 10 hours into the game and I am finally forcing myself to go do the second task of the main quest.

Pretty amazing how you can completely lose yourself in this game. I never got far enough in Morrowind to become this wrapped up in it, it was a very good move to give you the main quest immediately in this game, even though it seems it is only a matter of time before you stray away from it.

:y4: Welcome to Oblivion man... it'll definitely engulf you if you let it... I didn't even finish the main quest until level 18... so it was HARD... if you do it earlier, you should be a little better off... but it was fun going through it when I was at a higher level.

No cause for concern I don't believe, I've got same situation except I don't get DDE, I get freeze-ups. I've looked around on google and it seems this game is just flaky as hell.

I finally got around to going to that second task on the main quest, it caught me off guard in how much it sweeps you into the story the second you show up at that town. Before you know it you are all the way at the top of the map with a horse and a kitana(the horse controls suck by the way, my first complaint about the gameplay).

My biggest problem at this point is trying to balance out my items with the limited weight I can hold. I can only hold 195 worth and my standard equipment now is around 150, so basically no room to carry the money-making loot I find. Is buying a house the only way to store things? I know the shack in Imperial City is 2000, is there any decent house somewhere below 5000? Any tips on the best ways to get gold, the most I've been able to hang on to at once is 500 or so.

No cause for concern I don't believe, I've got same situation except I don't get DDE, I get freeze-ups. I've looked around on google and it seems this game is just flaky as hell.
Thanks. I have gotten 3 DDE's so far, two were close to each other on the same day, then I got another earlier today. If I could pull myself away from Oblivion I would see if it is all of my games or just Oblivion.

Well I fooled around for about 30 minutes tonight trying to get the game to work but when I go into a game I get all kinds of graphical weirdness and then the game locks up. Sometimes it locks up while loading a new game. I've reset my cache, i've removed all my old save files from my 360, i've tried it with and without the new patch and I've checked the disc and although it's not pristine it's damned close. No DDE's though.

I have about 30 or 35 Xbox 360 games and never have any problems playing them for 7 to 10 hours at a time without any issue at all. I'd say I've had a total of 1 or 2 freezes since I bought my launch 360 (both of which were in Oblivion btw) Also, I did feel my 360 for heat and it's barely warm at all so it's not a heating issue.

Anyways, i'm exchanging the disc tomorrow and if it does it again I guess I'll just have to write off this game and wait for a new RPG. I'm beginning to wonder if some of my Google searches was right and other game saves corrupt some games. The only real thing that has changed since I played this back in May a ton is I've added alot more game saves to my hard disk.

Really it's not even so much I want to play this game anymore but more that i'm worried that this game not working for me is some harbringer of Xbox 360 doom considering how many people's have died on OS. That's my main worry, if it's starting to die I want to exchange it now. But of course I really, really don't want to go through all that if it's not going to be any issue except for with this game.

I haven't played the game in awhile and since my xbox is going to Texas to get fixed it's going to be some more time but I got through the Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Arena, and Fighters guild quests, I'm on the Grey Fox missions for the Thieves guild and I'm almost done with the main quest I just have to close a whole bunch of oblivion gates to get some help from the towns. I really really hate those damn gates.

Sorry if this is old news, but it has been confirmed.

                            Oblivion Getting 30+ More Hours
Another expansion is on the way for one of the best RPGs of 2006.

British gaming mags PC Gamer and PC Zone have spilled the beans on a new Oblivion expansion titled The Shivering Isles. The new content will let players explore The Isles, which are divided into northern/southern areas titled (not too invitingly) Mania and Dementia, respectively. Players will be able to reach the Shivering Isles through a door on an island that appears in Niben Bay near Bravil.

The expansion will extend Oblivion's gameplay for another 30+ hours, and includes new quests, creatures, and dungeons. One new quest involves solving a mystery in a town on the Mania/Dementia border, where every citizen has a look-a-like. Among the new monsters are the Gatekeeper, a collection of bodyparts that have been stitched together, and the Knights of the Order, made up of tree roots.

Oblivion's first expansion, Knights of the Nine, was released November 22, 2006 for PC and Xbox 360. So far, The Shivering Isles has only been announced for PC, but with a little fairy magic the 360 and upcoming PlayStation 3 versions will get to vacation in the Isles as well. The expansion is currently set for a Q2 2007 release.

^If that extra content makes its way to the 360, they better release it on a disk. The hard drive can only take so many giant downloads. I really wish I could be playing, I was almost through the main quest since finishing the guilds and my brother just bought the Knights of the Nine expansion. Just got the coffin today so It'll be a while.
