I'll probably end up buying this game tomorrow and playing it most of the weekend. I just can't decide if I want to start over or not.

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
Oblivion is the first RPG I got into. It took a few hours of playing time, but I got hooked. I spent nearly 200 hours on the game. I ended up selling it in part so I'd stop playing and get to some other SP games.
I've read a rumor that there will be a "deluxe" edition with the full game and all d/l content including Shivering Isles. I would pick that up.Comment

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
I'd copy and paste but it's long as hell. Long story short, if you download the expansion, after about 75-80 hours of play things start disappearing from the game. It starts with things you've dropped ont he ground, then it goes to your inventory, to your person, then enemies and npcs start to disappear from the game, making the game unplayable. This happens whether you are accessing the SI content or not.
Overview
A very serious bug has been found with Shivering Isles that will render the game unplayable in many ways about 50 to 120 hours of play (better FPS means bug hits earlier) after installing the expansion. The bug will occur if you have SI installed -- regardless of whether you access SI content or not.
The bug is thoroughly confirmed on the PC, and there are now reports of it affecting Xbox users too, although it takes more hours of play to affect Xbox users.
While the situation appeared quite bad initially, several unofficial tools are now available for the PC, and Bethesda has released a beta patch. Although no fixes are available yet for Xbox 360, the prospects for Bethesda eventually releasing an official patch over Xbox Live appear promising.
Bethesda's original official response was:
<dl><dd>Regarding the issue in which Form ID's are being used at a high rate in the Shivering Isles content; we are aware of the issue and we are currently looking into a solution. We appreciate your patience, especially from those of you affected by this issue, as we carefully work out a fix that will correct this problem without adding any new issues. --NothingCatchy, Developer </dd></dl> [edit]
Cause
The basis of the bug is that an internal "space" of identification numbers for objects created in the game (e.g., a dropped arrow, a new creature, etc.) becomes exhausted -- at which point the newly created objects disappear from the game world. (Odd behavior of merchants has also been reported, and additional problems are likely.)
The immediate cause of the exhaustion is scripts for six NPCs in SI which are erroneously using up several identification numbers per frame of gameplay (hence higher FPS systems get hit sooner). The PC patch works by correcting the scripts for these NPCs.
In retrospect, it is recognized that some user mods suffer from similar (though less extreme bugs), and have caused similar problems in the past.
Recent investigation indicates that the identification numbers should not be used up so easily, but rather should be recycled. However, it seems that the piece of code responsible for rolling over the counter and beginning the next cycle fails to do so correctly. If that erroneous rollover is corrected, Oblivion resumes normal operation.
So for you guys who are going to start new characters and plan to get SI in the future, I'd wait until a patch is released.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
I just bought the game last weekend and downloaded all of the stuff. This is my first rpg ever. Yes, as a 30 yr old gamer, I have never bought any rpg's. This game is off the hook. Hopefully by the time I reach 50-70 hours a patch would have been released for the expansion. The Sports Preacher

At the Bethesda site they are saying they have not seen any issues with the "bug" in the 360 version. I might chance it...Joshua:

Re: Official Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Discussion
Yes and no. The old way duping items was fixed yes. However, some people have figured out a new way to dupe and do the constant effect trick. It's similar to the old way but you don't use arrows, instead you use scrolls. I don't remember the details but you can get the info at gfaqs.
Eh, here it is, copy and paste style:
Originally posted by AmmaHammaDuplicating Items after downloading Shivering Isles
This glitch allows you to duplicate items by using scrolls:
Step 1: Go to your inventory.
Step 2: Equip any scroll that you have multiple copies of (ex. 5 "Superior Convalescence").
Step 3: Once the scrolls have been equipped, press A again while still in the inventory.
Step 4: Drop the item you wish to duplicate (ex. Grand Soul Gem) - you must have less items than scrolls or it doesn't work.
You will now have the same number of items(ex. Grand Soul Gems) as you have scrollsPS: You guys are great.
