You might think I'm being too hard on Lair, but if you do, you clearly haven't played this game. Although there are levels where wide-open environments and spread-out objectives trick you into thinking the Sixaxis stuff isn't that bad, whenever a handful of enemies are on screen, your flight space becomes limited or you need to be precise, this game falls apart.



4.5 Gameplay
A bus-like feel and Suxaxis controls kill this game. In wide-open areas, it's okay, but the moment you need precision, you realize you’re screwed -- you can't corner, target or fight well.

Whats that, the impressions that I posted? Its from one of the regulars on IGN that posts there all the time, so its real.

I buckled, I went and picked this up. I haven't played a game on the PS3 in sometime except for BluRay movies, that I'm finally updating to 1.90 today.

That means nothing. That is the perfect person to recruit.

Wouldn't be surprised. He is jocking a game that is absolutely getting blasted by everyone. You do understand this happens often with movies and games, correct? I would not be surprised if he was compensated to say great things about an awful game.

If that is what he is doing, then that is his choice. I'll be back in a bit with my thoughts/impressions. Many on here know that I despise SUXAXIS with a passion, and so far I think this is not as bad as the reviewers have said. I'll have more indepth impressions in a bit.

YEah, I bought it. This game is really good for what it attempts to do...........its Rogue Squadron with Dragons. The setup is like Rogue Squadron, except there is a story with acting and very nice presentation. The cutscenes also look good and graphically the game does scream next gen.

Now the SIXAXIS controls can be frustrating at first, but once you have played longer than 5 minutes, you nail these controls down. Personally, I would prefered that they had regular controls instead..........but once you get used to looking goofy moving the controller around the game is not bad at all. The dragon tilts fine, granted sometimes it does feel that you are pulling a little too much to the right or left hand sides but its not that bad.

I'm not a fan of the Dargon vs. Dragon fighting since it could use a bit of work. You can fight with a dragon one on one, claw, bite, hit, flame. Its not bad, but if a sequel ever arises, they need to fix this.

I did see a few framerate issues here and there, but only occurs sometimes.

Here is one thing too that I'm having a problem with IGN's review. Greg says that you can't do a 180 degree turn, but you can. It's **** like that which frustrates me. I think some people are going to rate a game like this unfairly because they hate the SUXAXIS..............****............I hate SUXAXIS controls, but the more I play the game the more I enjoy it. I guess to each his own.

Its rather hard for me to recommend this to anyone that has had their minds persuaded that this game sucks by the reviewers. Rod, EG....if you guys have the money and will give the game a chance, you guys will enjoy.

Is Warhawk MP only and how well does the game play?

Warhawk is multiplayer only, and it's incredible, best game on the PS3 by far.

I would have gave Lair a chance if you could choose your control scheme. Even if it got 9's from the reviews, I can't stand using the Sixaxis controls for any game to date, Lair isn't going to change my mind.

We will see how it goes if I sell it or not down the road, but for right now its a good game.

But EG, you say almost every game is incredible or amazing. How are the servers?

The more that I play, the controls can get frustrating at times. Its a shame too because they have such a beautiful looking game and very nice story to go with it that the controls are the sole purpose that ****ed this game over in the end. Its either Sony pushing that Factor 5 create a game like LAIR using the SUXAXIS controls for marketing purposes or Factor 5 wanted to get really innovative here and use these controls.

A lot of people are hoping for a patch to use the analog controls. I doubt there is anyway to fix that with a patch.

I should have held off purchasing this yesterday, I guess this teaches me a lesson. I'm just waiting for EG now to come along and tell me I told you so. LOL!

Yup, it kind of makes me feel bad about the PS3 at the moment. Each one of these big hyped titles keeps on dropping like flies.
