Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
Today? I'm not so sure on that, now tomorrow maybe, but this being the "ship date" I don't think most stores will have it. If so, my EB wouldn't drive 2 hours to pick their copies up so we could have them tonight.Comment

Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
Well, my local Best Buy has them, but they claim it's street dated for the 12th.. WTF?! I talked to 2 of the blue idiots, just another example why I don't shop there. I gladly told them that if they would have sold it to me, I would have bought the DVD's and CD's I was picking up. But I walked out empty handed as I figured I would have (already had bought the dvd's at CC anyway..LOL)Comment

Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
With me being a Sports gamer and all, I must say this game is Goooooood. It takes a lot to give me that "WOW"!!!! factor and this is it.
I don't really know what the hell I'm doing but this game is unreal. I stopped playing after 10 min. to give you guys my 2 cents, not that you needed it, just wanted to update, and to read the manual a bit.
The graphics, theres no comparison. And to think Nba 2k7 was grapically the best game along with Live 07. This games beauty is unmatched.
Don't want to comment on gameplay because I am clueless right now about what needs to be done, But fellows get this game!!!!! You will not be sorry.
Just hope Call of Duty 3 gives me the same results. PEACE!!!!The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
Only dedicated Video game store's like EB games or Gamestop are allowed to sell them today. All other stores like Bestbuy, Walmart, etc can sell them on the 12th.Well, my local Best Buy has them, but they claim it's street dated for the 12th.. WTF?! Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
I think only game stores such as EB, gamestop, and such could release the game on the 7th, with the larger chain stores dropping them on the 12th.Comment

1UP Editor Jon Davidson's blog
I'm playing Gears of War through for the second time right now, and I can't deny it - it's one of the rare games that improves the more times you play. On the first run through I had a pretty solid idea in my head of what kind of scores it would receive across the board, and also a hunch on what I thought it should get. Usually these gut reactions (in this case, a good point lower than it's averaging) are pretty much spot on, but Gears is unusual: as evidenced by our review score.
On the first run through you spend most of your time agog at the unbelievable visuals, and (if you're playing on hardcore) somewhat anxious about the number of times you're getting gibbed by the Locust. The second run through though, you start to notice some of the subtleties (an unusual word to use about something so full-on in every regard, I know) in the storyline and the characterization. You realize that, bizarrely, you're making an emotional attachment to your squad mates. Granted, Dom is an AI buddy of Boomer-like idiocy, who you soon learn to hate with a boiling, unfathomable rage, but you really want him to make it through to the end. Similarly, you quickly learn to appreciate Cole, the huge linebacker tank of a guy from Alpha squad, and Baird the smartmouthed Iceman jackass that gives you a hard time every second he's near you, and you start to think "I hope these guys don't end up getting hosed, I kinda like them." How many AI squad buddies have you ever felt that way about? It's not touchy-feely stuff, it's not forced, scripted "emotion," it's genuine camaraderie. Perhaps it's an accidental side effect of the way the game is pieced together, perhaps it's intentional. Who knows, or cares; it works.

Re: Gears of War Discussion Thread
Hurry up before I cut you.
GameStop said around 5, EB said around 7...I believe one person is getting the copies for both stores, so I don't understand that. Unless two different people are getting them for each store, someone has their wires crossed or the guy will go to GameStop first and then EB (even then, its 20 mins max with traffic).
Just what I wanted to here. I could care less about solo play.Gears of War is, without a doubt, the must-play Xbox 360 title of 2006. I have some minor qualms with the single-player game, but as a co-op or multiplayer game it’s a treat unlike any other. The gameplay is fresh, and the graphics are simply stunning.Comment
