Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

Obviously haven't been following the Wii info that closely guys

EA have said Madden Wii is 16:9 and 480p

Nintendo at E3 said Zelda will most likely be 16:9 and I remember somewhere had Mario Galaxy at 16:9 and/or 480p.

They need to have a standard of 16:9 and 480p at the least. Granted they don't want to move into the HD era, but don't fall too behind in the time Nintendo.

IGN Rumor: Wii Release Date, Price

The article was removed, but here it is...

A number of big-name publishers are set to release their Wii games in mid-to-late October, which suggests that a system debut could not be that far off. And several insiders have told IGN that Tuesday, November 2 could, in fact, be the big day.

Thing is, not all of our contacts are in agreement on the date. Some have suggested that November 12 could, instead, by Wii's launch date. Regardless, though, it seems that Wii fans can look forward to their console sooner rather than later.

Sources suggest that Wii will launch with a $229 price tag and will be available in both black and white.

Insiders claim to have seen final hardware. The Broadway CPU is allegedly in the 750 CL line, a continuation of the 750 GX series. IBM may be working on a revised Broadway chip with a lower clock speed for a future Nintendo handheld -- presumably one that plays GameCube discs.

Nintendo has allegedly bumped production of Wii hardware to 5.5 million units by the end of the year, a significant upgrade to previous numbers. The jump is purportedly based on the positive reaction to Wii from press and industry analysts at E3 2006.

The console is unlikely to be region-free, although the lock is unrelated to hardware; a firmware update could theoretically allow gamers to play import software.

Nice details, but I wonder still if the standard of 16:9 and 480p will be across all games. Both Zelda and Mario Galaxy look the most interesting.

The most interesting thing for me is the size of the new unit. I've always disliked the look of the Cube. Since I can play every Cube game on the new console, i'll be getting one on release.

I guess MS was right it looks like more may go for the Wee60 approach. I have the money but i'm still not willing to part with $800 plus just to buy a PS3 at launch.

I'll be all over the Wii at $229. That's a nice price point.

I also think that it's cool it's launching with 2 colors. If I get one, I'm going with a white Wii to compliment the 360.

I also like that you can play all of the Cube games on the Wii.

                  Games Convention Wii Invite
A new chapter in the history of gaming, Nintendo proclaims.

August 7, 2006 - Game journalists have started to receive invites for Nintendo's pre-Games Convention 2006 conference in Leipzig, Germany on August 23, and the cards only reinforce what everyone has known for weeks: there is going to be some Wii news on hand.

The cards themselves are in German, but we've translated below.

8/23/06 Games Convention / Messe Leipzig

                  10:15, Nintendo Booth, Hall 5, F01

Be there when a new chapter is turned in the history of gaming. Dive into the world of Wii and make yourself a picture of the animated future of gaming.

                  Games that will touch generations.

                  Wii and where?

At the press show of the Games Convention, to which we hereby invite you cordially.

In German, Wii sounds like "wie," the word for how, which explains the sentence "Wii and where?"

IGN will be on-hand at GC 2006 for up-to-date reports. Stay tuned.

I'll likely get one at $250, if its $230 then even better. I'm waiting on software confirmation to know whether or not I'll be getting one at launch or at a later date.

Zelda is a given and it's being made for the Wee. Ubisoft has several games including EA and a it's sports titles. Mario Galaxy is the big name title that I think will be held back till 2007 or 2008.

Agreed, especially with the extensive EA and UbiSoft support recently announced. Add that to the innovative controller and usual funky lineup of first-party Nintendo games, and this is next-gen gaming, not the rehashed sequels and copycat titles with gorgeous graphics offered by the 360 and PS3.

                          Take care,

Yep! The controller and the infinite use of the Nintendo library of games will make this a monster system.

Any word on HDD size for the Wii??
