Swing the Wiimote to control Link's sword.

Nintendo has made some major changes to the control scheme for the Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

That would be superb. I'm guessing $199. Slips in just under the magic $200 price point and still gives Nintendo a HUGE advantage in the price wars against Sony and MS.

And forget about the "second console" niche: The Wii probably will be my primary console!

Re: Nintendo Wii (Revolution) Information, hardware, games discussion

I don't see Wii becoming the leading console. With Sony's gaffes and MS pulling off a decent not perfect launch, there's a lot of room for Wii. But Nintendo is pricing themselves as an alternative not the leading console.

But it comes down to the games. I think what we are seeing is the brain drain from all of these companies. Madden will come out for 7 consoles when PS3 and Wii are launched. No matter how you slice it that's a lot of money and development to put out an effort like that. With Wii being different from the PS3 that means developers will need to make a game for the Wii and not just port it over. That means that either some developers will treat Wii ports as afterthoughts and not put the effort into creating a game that utilizes the Wii. Nintendo won't and I think you'll see some truly unique ideas from them.

If anything the PS3 is looking more in trouble. Whatever you think of the 360 it seems to have a good model and offering games that make people want to buy it. Wii has the hype factor and Nintendo's reputation.

I would say not just the reputation but the means to deliver the same quality for the Wii. I think the Wii can have a longer life if Nintendo and the third parties are smart about how they develop for it.

              As for the $199 price.....well....

I don't get that logic, JRod. How does pricing itself at $200 or more less than its competition prevent Nintendo from grabbing big market share?

Using your logic, Lexus should outsell the Toyota Camry. After all, the Camry is cheaper. But the Camry is the most popular car in America.

Agreed. As a plus, I have read comments from EA and UbiSoft management indicating that its respective developers are really excited about the new possibilities in game development created by the Wii controller. It might just be pre-launch lip service hype; we'll see.

Sony still has that huge PlayStation brand name equity. As hard as it seems to be trying to shed that equity with the high price and questionable features of the PS3 (Blu-Ray, anyone?), that equity is hard to topple.

Plus there is a segment of the gaming population that must have the latest and greatest thing right now, regardless of cost.

Any wonder America has such a problem with credit-card debt?

Nintendo execs have said on the record that Wii will cost $250 or less at launch. Everything else is speculation until the Big N makes the launch date and price official.

It will be refreshing to see a new console launch with only one SKU and one price point unlike the dual SKU's and price points thrown at us by Sony and MS.

If you were to go by past history, the Wee will probably sell for $199. I don't think Nintendo has ever priced their machines any higher than $199.

That could be the Italian lire conversion to U.S. dollars, too. That may not be the U.S. price.

I'm betting on $199. Gives them a big edge over Sony and MS in pricing and keeps the sticker below that magic $200 mark.

The link to the IGN story is somewhere above. A high level EA exec said it (and it's not an anon source) that the Wii will be $179 in Japan (so about $199 here). This makes the most sense to me and seems to be the perfect launch price.

Read today that Nintendo plans to make, or 'wiimake' some top Gamecube games on the Wii to take advantage of the controls.

Pretty cool as long as they don't go overboard and still continue to make real Wii games.
