There's a lot to learn here, but based on what I've played, I'll give my impressions.

Communication will be key. I'm trying to talk to my teamates and they aren't replying. All I keep hearing is, "I'm so F'n confused." However, it's going to be crucial to talk to eachother.

I launched my planes from the carrier (you don't control the plane during launch, you take it right when you leave the carrier). You are basicly controling a fleet of 3. What I mean by that is you are the center plane and where you move the other two follow. You can also give orders by pressing x. If your plane goes down you can switch to the next plane. From the carrier, I launched 3 fleets of 3 and I can switch to all 3 fleets. I'm still learning, but I was able to launch a bomb and hit a destroyer. You can also go back to your carrier and fire from there against any nearby enemies. If you are my enemy, you will see three planes with "dQbell" over them (signifying that I'm in control of them).

The map is crucial. I'm not sure about how to use it, but you can direct everything from there. I think the overall goal will be to arrange your strategy from the map and then control your ship/plane if you so choose.

Graphics are pretty good. Ships show damage and smoke once you hit them. I think the planes look nice too. They aren't blocky or jaggy, and they have a nice motion blur going on. To me, what's important is that it looks good with all this stuff going on, and it does. There is a ton of stuff going on, over a large area. I found myself not worried about the graphics...I was immediately concerned about am I placed correctly, is my fleet in the right position to accomplish the objective. The graphics don't get in the way, but they aren't the highpoint of the game.

As far as lag goes, I haven't noticed any at all. Everything runs rather smooth without any hiccups or planes/ships shifting around.

Right now it's hard to get a handle on things because I'm trying to understand what exactly is going on. I'm going to check out the tutorial and go from there.

If you like slow, patient strategy, this game is for you. What I really want to work with is the subs. Should be fun. I'll try and get some more time with it later and post some more info.
Thanks dq. After reading that I wish I could bail out of work and try the demo.

How did the planes handle? Sim-ish? Arcade-ish?
I'd have to say arcade-ish. I noticed to the left of my screen there was something that said "strafe" and it made the plane control differently. Then I hit a button and it went away..lol...I couldn't get it back. It also said "dogfight" at one point, so I think there's a mode you can set your plane to, according to the situation you are in.

When I say arcade-ish, you don't control landing gear, you don't control your plane during liftoff. Those are done for you. You basicly have your throttle and maneuvering to worry about. The left trigger sets up your secondary weapon (bomb/torpedo). You hold it down and for the bomb a rheticle appears, so you have to position it over your target. I shot a torpedo, but I have no idea where it went. Right trigger fires. Your primary is machine guns. One cool note is that in one of my planes, while be shot at, what appeared to be another passenger was in my plane returning fire.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

Two, I can't see others also going through it either, or it staying big for long, meaning it's a single player game essentially.

        I'll try the demo tonight.
But once you get it down, it could be the best game on xbl. take a couple notes while you're watching the tutorial. I'm downloading now. Hopefully it finishes before I go to work.

          Re: Battlestations Midway

I wasn't that interested in this game until watching the latest walk thru vid available on live - it's the 500+meg video.

Some things I picked up from it.

Right bumper for carriers gets you to the launch plane screen. You can only launch 12 planes.

d-pad to switch between units or reticule over them and "click down."

Green button will find nearest enemy.

Blue button will bring up orders screen

Each red/green light = a gun. Flashing red = reloading.

          Left trigger changes weapons.

Torpedoes need to be launched very close to the water or they shatter when they hit the water.

AI controls backseat gunners in planes.

          Orange button zooms.

Each ship has a "sweet spot" for something like "head shot" kills.

Back button brings up the map. Shoulder buttons zoom in.

You can set waypoints and give orders in the map.

          Can loop and stall planes.

After dropping bombs or torpedoes from carrier planes, blue button and send them back to carrier to land/re-arm.

As dQbell said, it looks like you would play from the map giving orders and then jump into crucial spots of action or your favorite type of weapon.

Fortunately I am drawn to both run-n-gun and sit back strategy type games, so this one may just work for me.

I can handle the 90 minute training video as long as the gameplay is good.

Will play demo tonight after work.

I don't believe it's as much a 90 minute video as it is 90 minutes of training missions or hand holding missions.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the fact that the game's too complex for a Cowboys fan doesn't really say a whole lot.

I really don't see why this is so difficult. I just jumped in and was able to figure out the controls pretty easily. Granted this was for ships. Haven't had planes yet. I even sunk a few ships!

The graphics...meh, about as underwhelmed as I thought I'd be from the videos. They're decent, but you can tell this was gonna be an Xbox game.

Team Work will be essntial in this online. Nobody talked in my game, but it's randoms so you know how that goes. I'm gonna get another game or two in before the family gets home.

                            Jury's still out for me.
