    PS3 is not water.

    PS3 is not milk.

    PS3 is not gas.

    IT'S A FREAKING TOY.

I guess none of you TOUCH the stockmarket, lol. Buying low and selling high is just...so wrong.

edit. Funny though. I was at Walmart yesterday doing some returns and I chatted with a camper who was excited about being 2nd in line. Kid about 18-19 years old...and even though I have two myself, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy. Wierd.

now what does stocks have to do with this... i guess we'll agree to disagree here but if for some reason gas isnt a good example on my end but stocks are.

          ok.........

mudtiger, instead of a truck, it's a group of about 60 people with gallon jugs hording what they can. instead of one greedy individual, you have thousands.. thats the only difference here.

they took advantage of a bad situation. good for them. but they are still greedy. great businessmen and working hard to earn that living, but still greedy when its all said and done.

now of course we're talking about a toy, but apply these principles to something as trivial as silk fabric.. obviously not a neccessity. but lets say theres a known shortage and some people buy it all up. leaving those who really want it for everyday needs forced to pay extra.. again, great business move to take advantage. but cashing in on the greed aspect.

buying for the sake of buying, leaving those who really want or need it for its intended purchase forced to pay alittle more... great business move. shotty anticks to force such a activity

Especially since no one in this thread claims to own a PS3.
Nah, don't do that. This is a interesting read

depends on how you made your money. if you go door to door to old people and try to get them to sell you their home in hopes of reselling it after fixing it up, without giving them full information about its possible full worth, then yeah maybe thats alittle bit sneaky. and has that greedy aspect to it.

or getting a steal on ebay for an item worth 6000 dollars but you happen to buy it for 1000 because it snuck under the radar... those are the breaks. you inturn wait awhile for your investment to raise in value and then resell it. non greed here imo.

or walking into a garage sale, seeing a michael jordan rookie card and noticing a price tag of 10 dollars. then realize this old lady is selling it and you still take the card.

all great business moves with varying degrees of greedyness involved so the outcome favors you

Business is business. When it comes to ethics, you make it sound like everything is black and white. You also make it sound like if it's unethical if a person making money is doing so with any advantage at all. That's neither unethical, nor is it realistic.

These individual PS3 seller for example, took the initiative to take advantage of a sellers market, (due to a shortfall in shipment, that was Sony's doing, not their own), to make a profit. That is neither unethical nor greedy. That's called being proactive. If there were people out there as you seem to indicate that want PS3's so badly, in order to keep them, then it's up to them to take up the initiative to get in to a position to get the product. These people, didn't have any sort of competetive advantage or inside track, it was a product that everyone had an equal opportunity to acquire.

Just because someone took advantage of a the supply and demand situation to make money, does not make them unethical. It's a principle our economy is based on.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Buyers set the prices, not the sellers.

buyers become sellers thus shortening supply. so its true buyers initially set the price but here with reselling the then buyers who become sellers raise the prices even more..

maybe wrong on my end, but thats how I see it.

sellers RAISE prices from their actions as buyers.. whole new variable in that simple equation imo
