Re: Guitar Hero 3
Can I enjoy this game even if I don't like most of the songs? I really wish they would include Prince, Hendrix and Sly.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
After playing it more, I'm really hating what Neversoft did with song selection and note charts! I mean, I just really love Guitar Hero, so I might get this for Christmas. But it continually pisses me off that I know not only could they have had a better song selection (for Guitar Hero's sake), but some of the good songs on here have really sucky note charts that are... well, they aren't fun to play. I am still really griping about how they chose to make 3's and 7's, but that is just one of many examples.
I don't know if anybody else feels this way... where the songs are just plain hard to be hard. I mean, I can pass any of the regular 40 songs, really... I just think that they are more of a chore to pass than being able to have fun with them. Next year they should reduce the timing window marginally and make the game harder in that regard, and ease up the note charts just to make the game more fun. Not so many 3-button chords... only when they are necessary.
Damn it!
It's interesting that you mention the timing window, because they included a precision mode cheat in this game that shortens that timing window. It's just a suggestion, but perhaps playing on hard (which has far fewer 3 note chords) with that cheat turned on would be a better playing experience for you?
If you don't know the code already, I'll dig it up...cheat codes are kinda weird to enter in this game. But at least you only have to enter them once - after that they show up in a menu where you can turn them on or off.Comment

Of course there are things missing, but I think this is by far the best song selection. Only Barracuda, Holiday in Cambodia, and the Slayer songs are weak in my opinion.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I think the Hendrix estate is difficult to deal with as they had him in the first but made them pull the cover lyrics off.
Prince would be sweet. That is the kind of stuff where Guitar Heroes are missing the boat. They need to think just a little outside the box.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I saw him open for Joe Satriani back when I was in high school. To this day, it is still one the best concerts I've ever seen.
Speaking of Satch, they definitely need to get him in GH 4!!!NOW PLAYING: Battlefield 3, MLB 12 The Show
WISHLIST: Hitman AbsolutionComment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I really hope that with GH4 we get more licensed guitarists + why not get some of the best bassists also. I would love for some of the following guys, and this is only my wishlist in no particular order since there are other greats I left off this list:
Guitarists:
Kim Thayil
Jimi Hendrix (a dream since the estate plays hardball)
Eddie Van Halen
Joe Satriani
Eric Clapton
Jimmy Page
Slash (hope that he returns)
Kirk Hammet
Randy Rhoads (? since he has passed)
Brian May
Tom Morello (hope he returns)
Tony Iommi
Zakk Wylde
Bass:
Les Claypool
Flea
Billy Sheehan
John Paul Jones
Geezer (Terry) Butler
Nikki Sixx
I think that the more personalities that we get in GH4 the better, but not too many where the game gets flooded.
I would also like if they could restructure the Career mode in some way. Either combine some elements from the Tier mode into a new career mode that never ends would be nice. It would be cool if maybe they kept the Tier system as phase 1 where you need to go through the tierd system to unlock all of the songs for the "Rocker Band" mode which you select a set of songs that you unlocked to create your track list for a concert. Then you play those songs at the concert and depending on how well you do on each song determines popularity and amount of money that you make. I guess this kind of sounds like Rock Band, but it could work here. They need to really do something with the Career mode imo.
So far I'm having a blast with GH3 and enjoy the songs even though there are a few duds here. It would be cool if they would go back and give us some of the better songs from GH1 and 80's as DLC...........granted Harmonix owns those rights to the original games, they could redo those songs for the GHIII engine.Comment

Almost a good correction, though. But, overall, I just think that some of these songs aren't quite Guitar Hero material. Too many repetitive one-note clicking over and over and over again.
I still don't know whether I'll buy it. I'll try what you suggested, though.
Next time, Neversoft should consider doing this anyway.
Oh, and it's not that I don't like 3-note chords... but I don't like them where they don't belong. Though I don't really like the guy's version and note chart overall, compare what this song would look like where two buttons should be played instead of three:

vs. the GH 3 version:

Re: Guitar Hero 3
One last thing: This game definitely has an issue with the audio coming way too late compared to the notes that you are hitting. I'm not even going to argue that it is definitely different from GH 2 in this regard, and it's for the worse. At first I thought it was just from the YouTube videos, but the delay is marginal.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I agree with you about the delay. On some songs its not too noticable, but on some its pretty bad.
I thought maybe it would be fixed on the higher difficulties but I've only played a little of the hard level, so i'm not sure about that yet.Comment

As for being able to play every note on Hard...yeah, can't help you there. But in 3's and 7's case The total note counts are 939 on Hard, and 961 on Expert (and the only way I could see that was in practice mode - me pass thaton Expert?? Yeah right!!). That probably translates out to a few extra notes in the solo sections. The only difference that I can see in the verses is that the notes are 2-note chords on Hard and 3 on Expert.
This doesn't happen all throughout the game though. Take Dragonforce's song for example - the intro doesn't have those hammer-ons and therefore halves the note total on Hard for just that section. In total, TTFAF on Expert has nearly 1000 more notes on Expert than Hard.
Anyway this kind of falls into the workaround category, so if you haven't actually bought it yet then I can understand why you're concerned. I just meant for that to be sort of a fix if you'd already bought the game.Last edited by bcruise; 11-04-2007, 02:47 PM.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I agree with you Candy...er...Jigsaw on GH's career mode. We know they got the note thing down, they just need to completely overhaul the single player aspect of gameplay where it actually feels like a career and not a leg of a tour. I mean, the tier thing is a good start, but they need to start building on it with the next installment. Start with yourself and as you progress from backyards to bars you can form your own band, and as you get better, your band-mates get better too (whether from recruiting new members or practice). I enjoy the characters in GH, but it would be nice to completely customize your guitarists with a create-a-guitarist feature. I just think they need to make career mode more epic than the simple tier-level system.
I also agree with more guitarists on the next one too. More than 3 at least and have them all be real guitar players instead of 2 real and one fictional one. Eric Clapton would be cool. Buckethead would be awesome - he's definitely suited to appear in a videogame. Derek Trucks would be nice too.

Re: Guitar Hero 3
Maybe it's just me, but I like the note layout on the GH3 video a lot more than that homemade one. But then again, I actually own GH3 and have played it many times, unlike some in this thread who played it at a Best Buy and don't own itComment

Re: Guitar Hero 3
I'm not saying which note chart is better... I'm saying which one ends up being more fun, when changing three-button chords to two-button chords. The other way makes it just annoying, and cramps my hand. I can hit all the notes and pass them either way, but the notes like that are just plain irrelevant.
I'm not even talking about the layout. The layout in the homemade one sucks. But the song is 10,000x more fun when you subtract one.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
