    Re: Fallout 3

PS3 version has a new patch that adds trophies and other fixes. It is supposed to have fixed the friends notification bug that temporarily freezes the screen when a name pops up.

Fallout 3 worms its way into the top 5 of my all-time favorite console games. I finally decided to finish the main story, clocking in at just over 80 hours. After unlocking all the locations I know I left at least 20 plus hours on the table.

Although it was too short, the main story was greatly enhanced, IMO, by all the time I spent exploring the world beforehand. I was totally immersed in the history and plight of the Fallout world, so I was invested in what was going on.

Its quite ironic that a post-apocalyptic world could feel more alive than so many other game worlds.

I'm hoping Eidos can make Deus Ex 3 at least as good as this game. That seems to be the next epic shooter/RPG hybrid on the horizon.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

That is one thing that Oblivion did a better job of imo. You could play the game so that you wouldn't miss anything. This one is so freeform that you can actually skip quests.

I'm 70 hours in, and have completed 24 quests - how many are there total?

What happened to me is that I recently finished unintentionally, so went back to a previous save so that I only have one or two quests of the main story - but I have that explorer perk. I will go to every location in the game now, but it seems to me like any sidequests that would have potentiallly been available are now gone with a couple exceptions (did oasis last night).

Oblivion had its faults, but I felt like I had over 20 quests going simultaniously at many points, and in this game I've only completed 24 total.

Don't get me wrong, imo it's still easily the goty though

I just picked this game up on Friday. It has completely consumed my life. I think I'm digging this more than Oblivion, which I also absolutely loved.

                Re: Fallout 3

I finished the game after about 50-55 hours of doing some sidequests and the main quest. It's amazing that I spent that much time and STILL have whole sections of the map I didn't touch. I want to go back and play again as more of a stealth/thief character and hit those spots.

I loved the game, but have two complaints:

                1) I played on normal, and it was too easy. I think this stems from too much ammo and too many stimpacks, and also that ammo weighs nothing. It's also pretty easy to find very powerful weapons. Toward the end, when I was gunning for the Behemoth achievement, even they were not very difficult to defeat. I'm going to play the next run on Very Hard.

                2) The ending. Not so much what happens as how it's told. After playing a game like Mass Effect, which had a spectacular ending, Fallout's was pretty disappointing.

Despite that, it's my game of the year. There's so much to do and the Wasteland has a lot of personality to it.

True. Also playing on Normal, i finished the game with 155 Stimpaks in hand I only used them in a firefight against serious foes like Mutant Masters and Behemoths, any other time i just drank from sinks (then used Rad-Away) or slept in beds to recover health since bathrooms and beds were so plentiful even during missions.

That said, a game like Fallout 3 you can tailor the difficulty to your needs perfectly by setting your own house rules (such as not using particular weapons at all)...I'd rather have it like this - an easy game that i could make challenging for myself - than a super-hard game where i can't alter difficulty levels or the way i play to make it more bearable for me.

It would of been better and far more realistic if ammo and health-related items had weight to them to add more strategy to the carry in terms of deciding what to carry into and out of battle. Why does a grenade or mine weigh 0.5 pounds yet a missile or a mini-nuke has no weight at all?

I like the fact that it isn't insanely difficult. To me the game is all about exploring, the characters, and the story. I'm playing on normal, but that's good enough for me.

One of the big criticisms the developers had with Oblivion was related to inventory management and how tedious it could get. The developers decided to minimize that some with Fallout by making ammo weightless, especially since most weapons require an ammo component. Where as in Oblivion, the only weapons requiring ammo was the bow and slingshot.

                                2 questions;

How do put a 'Live' gernade on someone and make 'em go boom?

and whats your regular 'load-out' when out exploring? I usually only have about 30-35lbs to spare.
