Lol i definetley see your point. I found doing missions for the women in the craterside supply (can't remember her name for life of me) and doing research for her book was a good way to get out and about and it kinda just flowed from there.

I really only have two minor gripes with the game:

1. How come if i'm some great explorer i can jump/climb over a 3 foot peice of steel?

2. I wish there were some vehicles in this game because i see motorbikes and trucks lying about the place and it sure would make it quicker to get where i want to go.

I agree with gripe#1, but for gripe #2, if we're running out of oil NOW, gas in post apocalyptic DC must cost a lot of bottle caps!

But you're totally right on the other point, man. Two missions to draw me into it, and I'll be all about this game. I'm a HUGE Oblivion fan, so I know Fallout might be a personal game of the year for me. I just mention it now to get it out of my system so I forgive the game by the time I put it back in.

1. It's a post apocalyptic world, and you aren't anywhere close to the first people out. I think they say that the war was 200 years ago or there about. Anything in tact was taken long ago.

2. It's a post apocalyptic world where the president...well, I won't spoil it. Needless to say, the DC area isn't known for its oil, and even if it was, I doubt there'd be any working refineries given the incredibly limited energy available. Given that the world is composed of factions that include slavers and super mutants, I doubt there's much trade beyond each township.

3. Yes, I'm aware that there was a car in Fallout 2

4. The world really isn't that big. With fast travel, nothing really takes that long to get to.

That's not engaging to me. I'm sure I'll get past it, but right now I turn on Fallout and it makes me just want to play another game that actually needs me, lol

Can't you say that about any game's first level/mission/quest?

It picks up around the next quest, and then goes into the generic "save the world" mode like all games.

It takes me a while to get into just wandering around. I like having a sense of overall purpose. It doesn't have to be super specific, but just a general sense that I'm either helping the salvation or preventing the destruction of some aspect of the world I'm in. In Fallout 3, if you don't want to find your dad(which doesn't seem really important), you can just be content to drink irradiated water in Megaton until you get cancer and die, and nothing about the world will change.

That's not engaging to me. I'm sure I'll get past it, but right now I turn on Fallout and it makes me just want to play another game that actually needs me, lol.

Once I did about 4 or 5 long quests, I really began to feel like I was impacting the city/world in a major way, and was hooked into learning the lore and culture of the Fallout 3 Universe.

I put 60 hours into the game before I took up the main quest in earnest, so when I did do the main quest the context for what was going on, and my motivation for seeing it through, were readily apparent.

I'm already jonesing for the DLC, based on conversations that I had with NPC's in the game about those epic historical battles.

All great points and it is way more realistic the way it is. Just thought it would be fun to tear around the countryside on a motorbike.

I made the Rock-it launcher last night for the first time last night and that thing is awesome (and hilarious). It's funny seeing a super mutant being decapitated by a coffee cup or killing a raider with a frying pan to the sternum.

Just bought the game today. I love it, but I think I already screwed up.

When in Megaton, I opened the Armory and started to get shot by a robot. No matter, I thought, as I just left. Little did I know, this mfing robot chases you out of the town, and everyone in the town is shooting at me now. I literally have no idea what to do. Do I just have to start the game over since I cannot get into Megaton?

I think you're screwed unless you want to kill everyone in town. I had the same problem except I killed that bastard robot before I left that shed.

Well i personally would try to load from a save just before megaton if you have one but if not i would prob start over. Or you could always just:

try to go the badass route and kill everyone in the town and take their stuff

How did you manage to break into the armoury so early in the game? I though you'd need 100 lockpick skill to unlock the door?

When I told the sheriff about someone wanting to blow up the bomb, he went to go arrest the dude. Then the when he went to arrest him, they got into a gun fight, where the sherrif was shot by the baddy and I killed said baddy. The sheriff had a key on his person.

That was my favorite moment outside of the Vault so far. I'm gathering info on my pops and what not, and this shifty dude tries to recruit me to help blow up the city. So I promply shot his head off and took his stuff. It was such a saloon scene it wasn't even funny
