Re: Splinter Cell Conviction (360 & PC)

The developer walkthrough shot this game up to the top of my fall list. I bought the first Splinter Cell the week it came out and have only demoed 1 or 2 of the sequels. This seems to add the action that I felt was missing.

Wayne in the summer, Fisher in the Fall, Shephard/Wake in the spring. Good time to have a 360.

That was a great walkthrough. Looks like they are using the RB6 tagging system there. Very nicely done, especially that restroom scene with the guy's head going through the sink.

Re: Splinter Cell Conviction (360 & PC)

After watching the extended gameplay video, I was very impressed by alot of things:

1.) How they show intended targets and locations real-time. I've never seen this before but it's a new wrinkle in gameplay that other developers will take note of.

2.) Seamless transistion from a cutscene to gameplay (ala MGS4). I loved that in MGS4 and I'm glad the SC developers took notice. Adds alot of realism to the game.

3.) As people have mentioned, the "mark and execute" technique is a very good idea and gives added strategy how you approach an area with multiple enemies.

4.) The realistic hand-to-hand combat moves. I like that it's fast enough to look real, but slow enough for you to see how Sam executes each move.

5.) The overall graphics and lighting look great.

6.) The white silhouette that shows your last known position seen by your enemy. This lets you know where your enemy will pursue. It allows you to flank or attack your enemy from a different position they last saw you. A great idea that I will no doubt take advantage of.

Judging by that vid, Conviction seems to have the potential to be the best Splinter Cell yet. I'm so glad the Conviction staff went back to the drawing board cause this game looks awesome.

This game looks amazing. Is there going to be multiplayer online? ONline was so much fun.

Yea it does. The Conviction I saw in '07 just wasn't Splinter Cell at all. They were trying to go in a different direction and I wasn't feeling it at all.

                    Yep

Of course this is the first we're seeing of the game, but many fans of the series want to know if the multiplayer will return in Conviction.

We're going to have a multiplayer, but I can't talk about it anymore than that. It's part of the things we're going to announce during the summer.

Is the multiplayer being developed by the team at Ubisoft Montreal along with the single-player?

Yeah, everything is being developed by Ubi Montreal.

Multiplayer to be shown in the coming weeks.

                          Part 1 of Q&A

                          Q. I saw the splinter cell conviction gameplay today but then I found out that it isn’t coming out on the PS3. Why would you do that?

                          A. Splinter Cell conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms. There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a “link of heart” between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance). The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of - console - hardware to support.

                          Q. Is it possible to go through the whole game without being seen, heard, or using my pistol...
Basically, can I use only stealth the whole game??

Absolutely, all the maps can be played completely in stealth when special circumstances do not require you to play otherwise. It is up to the user to decide how they play the game. We have crafted a versatile and rewarding experience for all gamers. With that said, Conviction is designed to give the player an edge if they play intelligently. For example, playing smart will allow you access to Mark and Execute, as well the ability to gain information from interrogations, among other benefits.

                          Q. I am dying to know; when will we hear about the multiplayer details?

We are currently developing a thrilling multiplayer component in Montréal. But all Multiplayer concepts and functionalities will be revealed later, with detailed information on game modes. Preparing events such as E3 requires a lot of work (preparing for an event is almost like developing a game in the game), and we need to stay focused. That’s why we can’t cover all game elements at once. However, we are already working to show you the multiplayer in the coming weeks.

I just hope the multiplayer is as good or better than what was in Chaos Theory.
