One of my first games and I didn't do so hot.

I would'nt say I gave up on it too early. My distaste for Halo multiplayer started with Halo 2 online which I played for about two weeks straight and just could'nt figure out the art of getting kills. My thirty minutes or so with Halo 3 online was like dejavue (spelling ???) I was like great, another Halo game that I can't figure out how to get kills in !!! It's not that I hate to lose or anything, I just hate when I can't figure how to improve and atleast be competitive.

I got some kills in Halo 2 and Halo 3 but they were few and far between. I tried everything in Halo 2, every weapon but always ended up with the same result.....me riddling someone with a crap load of bullets for about 10 seconds and watching them finish me off with a single shot or two. And they were'nt using a sniper rifle either!!! Usually it was some weapon that was supposed to be inferior to what I was using at the time. This was game after game after game after game after game after game........... (well you get the idea). I've tried aiming at their head (both heads to be exact :wink, their feet, their chest, their legs, their arms, the cuticles on their fingernails, the mole on their left shoulder....EVERYWHERE, all to no avail

Bottom line and I know it, I SUCK AT HALO !!!!

I might give Halo 3 another chance since it is only available for a short period of time. But, I'll have to turn off my mic so I don't bother others with the constant flow of four letter words......let's just call it my Halo vocabulary :y4:

I'm in the middle with the Halo 3 beta. I think it's mainly the people I'm playing with. Some games are really enjoyable, while others are just a mess. Some capture the flag on the bigger maps with some OS'ers will be a blast. I know this much, I'll be buying Halo 3 at it's launch.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I hated Halo 2. HATED it. I played, in total, probably 16 rounds online. That was it. I sucked at it, got tired of the moronic kids plaguing the online servers, and just didn't enjoy it at all.

Fast forward to this beta and I've done a complete 180. Maybe it's because of all the time I've spent playing FPS's with you guys, making me better at the genre overall, I don't know, but something in me has changed and I can't get enough of this thing.

Plus, with the way the party system mutes the opponents until after the match is over if you're playing a ranked team game, putting up with the idiot kids is a thing of the past. Big time SERIOUS thumbs up from me!

The campaign mode would be the ONLY reason for me to buy Halo 3. But I'll wait until the OS board starts sounding off with impressions of the single player mode first.

The Halo 3 Multiplayer is poop

OS is probably not the best place to look for single player mode impressions. This is a multiplayer board when it comes to FPS games so you're probably going to want to look on another board where campaign mode isn't considered a secondary/afterthought mode.

So has anyone played anything different for team skirmish than:

Valhalla
One Bomb
Territories
King of the Hill

Snow Level
Land Capture
Oddball
VIP

High Ground
CTF
Territories
King of the Hill

I could just be really late on the number of matches they said they were going to offer.

I would love to play CTF on Valhalla, because as expected these matches/levels are getting stale fast.

I played VIP on Valhalla.

And I agree, CTF on Valhalla would be great. Maybe they're waiting to add in BTB in a week to give us CTF on Valhalla.

I played shotgun/sniper or whatever the hell its called on Snowbound a few days ago after entering team skirmish through the matchmaking thing.

Played some more tonight, I don't hate it, but I don't like it much. There's very little to no strategy, it's all run and gun. Just feels like any other FPS. Bungie has a lot of cool stuff with it and that does put it above Unreal Tournaments of the world, but there's nothing Earth shattering here.

I still don't get how I unload a clip into someone and they don't die, yet turnaround and kill me with one shot. But I may never understand that.

the only thing I can conclude is the default rifle sucks and if the other person has a better gun, you're toast.

Yeah, and I'm stuck with the default Assault Rifle 75% of the time it seems. It was a good time this evening. It'll be campaign first type game for me, and multiplayer second, but I'm fine with that.

Head shots, guys. Head shots kill faster than anything else. You're also right - that default rifle isn't that great. I usually grab the first weapon I can find. The Covenant Carbine is a great GREAT weapon to use. Fast firing and deadly if you nail'em in the head with it.

I have still never seen this...unload a clip into someone and then die in one shot thing.

And, here's a hint. If you're behind the guy and he isn't turning around, don't shoot him, One melee-shot to his back and he's dead. No chance to turn around.

You want strategy, EG...there it is. Don't run after someone firing madly. If you're behind someone catch up as fast as you can and melee him.
