A week before the game is released there will be spoilers all over the net. Nobody put any on this website for this will be one of the only websites I am on.

I on the other hand have no idea what the plot of the first two games was (other than some green dude being an alien killing bad***) and don't have the desire to replay both single player campaigns or read the Wikipedia articles.

This game is solely about multiplayer (again...played 'Halo 2' ever so briefly after getting online with the 360). I'll beat the single player, but do I care if Cortana is eaten by that giant 'Little Shop of Horrors' plant? Or if the random Covenant good guy is martyred?

'BioShock' spoilers were all over this site within a few days, primarily because folks beat the game, played the game, and didn't add *SPOILER* tags.

Avoid the internet and avoid threads that mention what you don't want to know (aka ANY "Halo" thread). I was able to avoid 'Harry Potter' spoilers this way, and frankly, that's your best bet for avoiding Halo spoilers.

well, I'm sure the case will be different with Halo 3, but I remember Halo 2 came out my senior year of college and a friend of mine had somehow downloaded a French copy of it and put it on a disc that we could play on any regular xbox (meaning it didn't have to be modded to play it, I still don't know how he did it). He had that 3 weeks before it was released in the U.S. Nonetheless, senoritis took on a whole new meaning when we got that.

Need more gametypes? Take a look at "Bungie Recommends."

With the advent of Forge, Halo 3's map editor, the breadth of the game's customization has expanded exponentially; Bungie Recommends is the developer's way of regularly "bubbling up" the best and most interesting/ridiculous/fun user-created gametypes, map variants, screenshots and Saved Films that are floating around the Halo-verse, as well as those that Bungie creates itself. Accessible from within Halo 3's online menus, the feature is essentially a file list split into categories that you can browse and download from. If you haven't been keeping up with how these things work, Saved Films are simply small files of game data and not actual video, so they can be accessed as instantly as everything else. Considering how many routes there are to draw attention to your content -- friends, Bungie.net, YouTube, other sites or simply word-of-mouth within Halo 3 -- there will likely never be a shortage of new content to choose from.
In Halo 2, made-up gametypes like "Zombie" (where players would switch teams as they were killed, growing the Zombie team) became popular within the community, requiring participants in custom games to abide by unofficial rules to enjoy it. It has since become an official gametype in Halo 3, but it won't take another sequel for variants like these to get noticed this time around. They can be created easily with Halo 3's much-expanded customization options, and then popped onto Bungie Recommends for everyone to enjoy, without having to add to the official playlist rotation. It should do a lot to further the cohesiveness of the online community and the way people play the game, and is simply another tasty layer on a massive cake we don't expect to stop eating for years.
You will also be able to view this stuff on Bungie.net, and flag things, which will automatically download the next time you turn on your 360. Bungie said they could add a hopper in matchmaking for just user-generated content in the future.

                        ...

                        Talking Halo 3 with Bungie's Frank O'Connor

Xbox.com: We've seen a lot of additional detail in the single-player levels, such as foliage and dramatic lighting effects, that wasn't there for the Multiplayer Beta. Can you talk about the additional effects and details that gamers will encounter in the single-player game?

O'Connor: Well Campaign, by its very nature, is always going to be the visually more dense experience. Some of the levels feature stuff we haven't shown yet, in terms of effects, atmospherics and design, but the main thing to expect from Campaign mode is scale. There will be large battles, huge vistas and more importantly, some enormous places for the player to explore, alone, on foot, in vehicles or with company. We want the Campaign mode to be challenging, but we also wanted to build some very cool spaces and environments for people to explore.
Xbox.com: If someone hasn't played the first two games in the series, how can they best prepare for Halo 3?

O'Connor: Halo 3 is designed so that anyone can pick it up during this chapter. It would be horribly egotistical to assume everyone has already played, or "gets" Halo, so as ever, we've made it approachable from a gameplay perspective, with settings to suit any player, of any skill level. We've also tried to ensure that the new players don't need to read up on Halo lore to get the fiction. This is the final chapter in the trilogy, yes, but as such, it's a big picture painted with broad strokes. A hero trying to save an imperiled galaxy. But fiction fans don't need to worry—we've layered in more answers than they perhaps expect.

Yahoo! Games to premiere Halo 3 videos

Yahoo! Games will exclusively unveil two new Halo 3 videos this week.

The first, entitled "Museum," depicts a former UNSC Marine reminiscing about a great battle he fought alongside Master Chief -- a battle players will get to experience first-hand in the upcoming action shooter.

The second video, entitled "Believe," will be the full-length version of an upcoming TV commercial that's part of the game's launch campaign. The additional footage will only be available to view on Yahoo! Games.

                            Launch schedule:
                            Wed 9/12, 9AM P.T.: "Museum" Video
                            Fri 9/14, 9AM P.T.: "Believe" Video

Sneak peek snaps from the Museum video.

Love the last shot showing a portion of the diorama.

Halo 3 Hits New Levels of Audio Realism With Waves

Waves, the world’s leading developer of professional audio signal processing tools, announced that Bungie’s Halo 3 will be the first video game to utilize its audio signal processing technologies in real-time. This dramatic development marks a significant step forward in game audio.

“I have used Waves tools extensively in the sound design of earlier Halo titles, but using these tools real-time is an exciting new step for Halo 3 and the video game industry,” said Marty O’Donnell, Audio Director of Bungie Studios. “These tools bring a higher level of audio realism and emotional immersion then has ever been possible before. I believe the use of Waves real-time signal processing tools represents the next major breakthrough in audio quality for the video game industry.”

“Waves is pleased to be working with Bungie, adapting our products to real-time video game rendering,” said Paul Bundschuh, vice president sales & marketing, Waves Semiconductor and OEM Licensing Division. “Several Waves technologies including the L360 Surround Limiter and Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer have been implemented in the Xbox 360 plug-in format for Halo 3 and other Xbox 360 game titles.”

“Microsoft welcomes Waves as an Xbox 360 middleware provider,” stated Brian Schmidt, Xbox program manager for Microsoft. “Waves has done a great job delivering their technologies and support for Halo 3. We are thrilled to have Waves audio processing available only for the Xbox 360 platform, providing these highly requested professional audio technologies to our game developers.”

                              About Waves Audio Ltd.

Waves introduced the industry’s first audio plug-in 1992 and has become the world’s leading developer and provider of professional digital audio processing tools. Waves technologies are used to improve sound quality in the creation of hit records, major motion pictures, popular gaming and multimedia titles the world over.
