Pleasantly surprised with the game as I really didn't care about playing it after the demo. The one minor thing that annoys me is the framerate drop but the atmosphere is pretty cool.

The other thing I hate is mid-mission and you die, you have to start all the way back- checkpoints aren't as forgiving as other games

I've played through this game and while it was enjoyable I sure as hell wouldn't go through it again. No re playability on this one but it's worth a rental.

No, I thought I'd go through one of the first chapters but its too much of a pain to get through it to find the one magazine.

Almost 10 hours to complete the game (default difficulty) and I didn't chase down achievements that weren't right there while doing the story

There are check points mid mission...but yeah I get what you're saying. If you get far enough through a checkpoint but don't reach another checkpoint, there isn't a checkpoint in between the two that you can restart from.

            ...that's a little confusing lol

There were only 3 or 4 times I came across the issue with checkpoints when leading up to it there was nothing really, no real fighting or anything so that was the aggravating part especially when it was just part of the driving before/after a mission

I never had any frame rate drops but I do have it installed.

Thanks for the tip. Don't know why I didn't think of this.

                      Re: Mafia II (PS3/360)

Love the game, just wrapping up my final achievements, working on the 159 wanted posters. As good as the game was, I do have a few small complaints that are more tuning than anything else.
                      • Hitting LB to view behind you resets your forward camera.
                      • No way to look to the left right when using LB to view behind
                      • Bad collision avoidance on the part of drivers (most of my deaths came from high speeds / hitting other cars as I don't like using the A button). Drivers almost seemed to 'try' to hit you, instead of avoid you. Play Saints Row 2, and you'll see an extremely good implementation of car collision avoidance on the part of other drivers.
                      • Paths were not always correct (usually messed up if a location was under an overpass. The path would tell you to go to the overpass, and then your 50 feet above the location you marked on map).
                      • Music choice was good, but not great. They totally skipped the 50's doo-whap music style (one of my personal fav's) opting to go for big hits more than anything else.
                      • Little difference between easy/hard on the game. Only thing I could honestly tell was different was the speed your player healed. That was it. Bullet shots hurt as much, one shot kills were still in effect, timed deeds were just as short on easy, etc.
                      • No way to save game after getting new care, upgrading, adding to garage. Hated losing a nice car I had found/upgraded due to the lack of a save system.
                      • No way to view collectibles in game, which makes it harder when trying to track them down / find them all.

If I was traveling at high speeds, I'd constantly honk my horn - 90% of the time, they would clear a path for me.

Wasn't there a Frankie Lymon song in this game? Pretty sure I heard doo-wop on the radio a couple times.

I loved the Delta station, nice to see them include Bo Diddley in the game.

Still of the night is the only song I can think of off the top of my head from the game.

Guess what the horn does? Not just while you're coming at them either, works when you're behind them too.

Though of course if you looked at the map you probably would've realized you could've simply cut across the road you'd have the right path. That's how it was for me the 2 times it came up.

                              Refering to wiki always helps:

In the 1950s, this type of harmonized group sound was referred to (broadly) as "rock and roll", but more narrowly as "R&B". However, R&B was still too general a term, since R&B included single artists, instrumentalists, and jump blues bands, as well as vocal groups. At the time, the best and most accurate term used was probably "vocal group harmony," but the style still did not have an official name, despite the fact that it dominated the charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The term "doo-wop" first appeared in print in 1961, notably in the Chicago Defender, when fans of the music coined the term during the height of a vocal harmony resurgence.

The definition expanded backward to include rhythm and blues groups from the mid-1950s and then even further back to include groups from the early 1950s and even the 1940s. There is no consensus as to what constitutes a doo-wop song, and many aficionados of R&B music dislike the term intensely, preferring to use the term "group vocal harmony" instead.
Considering the game is over before the time the term was coined or it was major...well yah.
But even then far as the expanded backward idea...based on the list of doo-wop songs/groups on wiki there's at least...

At The Hop - Danny & The Juniors
Why Do Fools Fall In Love - Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers
                              Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley

                              Maybe - The Chantels

Al Hibbler is also listed as having do-wop songs and has two songs in the game but neither of those are listed as do-wop.

Not directly but it's not hard to get to the next mission checkpoint where it'll save.

Horn doesn't do any good when you're going real fast. Like I said, I rarely used the A (speed limiter). As for looking at the map, it's not as simple as just cutting across a road to find the right path. Though I usually just jumped off the ramp and landed safely 'most' of the time.

I never heard any of the songs you have listed below. Though I think I heard Maybe, but if it's the song I'm thinking of, then it's not do-whap.

Going to the next mission is usually not a choice. In fact, that's the problem, as going to the next chapter or a chapter checkpoint is the only way that you can save. Wouldn't be so bad if they just saved your cars when you added them to the garage.
