Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
Maybe it won't matter in this game. It would just be a lot of "Tell me what you know about the Geth." It's just that this system wouldn't be preferred in Fallout or other games where there's lots of inspired smartass dialogue.
Still...I can see a situation come up where the game gives you the choice of saying, "You're a traitor!" You won't know if the rest of that statement is
"...and I'll kill you where you stand!"
or
"...so give me something good and I might keep my mouth shut."
As I said...it's a minor complaint.Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
Toysrus.com
You had to have ordered like...before the 12th. They wised up shortly after that.
The odds of getting a copy early in a physical store are not good since the system should stop them from selling it. K-Mart used to sell them, but, now, I believe their system rejects it. Since then, someone on Cheapassgamer bought one from Fred Meyer so their system must not care. Still, you would have to find a clueless employee. You're not going to find one at Target, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc unless someone is willing to do an override at the register.
Also, apparently, Blockbuster's release date for the game is 10/5/07.Last edited by Defel; 11-16-2007, 10:32 PM.Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
I got mine from an online retailer as well. Earlier I promised to post some impressions so here is what I've got after six hours of play.
I have to say overall the game is fantastic; the only way I can really describe it is being like KOTOR on crack. The game mechanics are the same so it was pretty easy for me to get into. It took a few minutes of walking around and talking to various characters you get thrown into some action. The fighting system in the game reminds me of Gears of War/GRAW somewhat.
This is b/c you can order your team around and control what kind of equipment they use. The only thing I don't really care for is using the back button to throw/use grenades... it's an odd button placement.
The music in the game is also quite good it fits well into the surroundings and atmosphere the game creates. The storyline is intruiging so far and there is also a large amount of side-quests that tie into things quite well. I'd have to say so far it's shaping up quite well.
If anyone has any specific questions I'm willing to answer.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

So can you remap the controls? I'm assuming no.I got mine from an online retailer as well. Earlier I promised to post some impressions so here is what I've got after six hours of play.

Is this game comparable to Oblivion? Is it a non-linear free-form type adventure where you can explore on your own?Comment

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
This really depends on the configuration of the squad you use, as each member has specialized skills. They will however help you out in combat but you do have to make sure they are always kept in cover otherwise some of your members might turn into X's during a fight.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Mass Effect - Impressions
They're fine. However, you don't want them to be in follow mode during battle. Otherwise, they'll get in your way when you try to dodge a missile, get behind cover, etc.
I've only used them on "Defensive" AI. You can also set their AI to use their powers freely. They've done a good job of boosting their shields when they go down and they only use offensive powers when I tell them to. They don't seem to use their First Aid skill though.
I don't even know how First Aid works since I don't see a way to command a party member to use it. Maybe when I push the First Aid button, it automatically applies the abilities of whoever in the group is best at the skill...I don't know. That's the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise, training your party in First Aid would be pointless.Comment
