My first Deus EX experience and really enjoying the game. The main charachter reminds me of a the look of Keanu Reeves and the voice of CLint Eastwood.

Just a quickie: If this is the first Deus EX I play, will I be totally freaking confused or is it a new story?

That's really the only thing holding me back.

Is anyone having a glitch when they try to finish the Motherly Ties sidequest? I give the info I found to the mother, but the the dialogue window stays open without any choices and I can not get out of it. Anyone have a solution?

Yeah, other than being terrible at hacking, this game is pretty ****ing awesome.

Well...it's awesome even with that, because that's me sucking, not the game's fault.

About 5 hours in and Wow. Top notch production values all around. This is right up there with ME2 so far, and that was one of the best games ever IMO.

How does hacking work? I've seen everyone complaining about how difficult it is.

Well, words can't describe how disappointed I am that Gamefly didn't get this to me today. Whenever a new release has shipped on a Monday, I get it on Wednesday. It's always been that way. Not today apparently.

                          Hopefully tomorrow is the day.

The way I understand it is you come in on a node, from there you've got to get into different computers in the system or other devices until you get to the node you need before you're detected on the system. You get a running countdown from time of detection till caught, locking down a terminal or system will give you a few seconds more on the timer till detection.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

It boils down to a pre-thought out plan of action before you start the hack. Determine the success rate of detection at each location, if you want to employ a nuke virus at certain locations or fortify certain locations before even starting. Then you attempt to fly through your thought out plan racing against the computer finding you.

Glad I am not the only one find hacking tough. And you can't take on tougher hacks, better stuff until you upgrade your hacking capabilities.
