    Re: Far Cry 2

You must have the camo suit if you wish to sneak up on checkpoints and camps. It really does help.

But yeah the game feels deep at first but it really isn't at all aside from the wide open maps. It's like another version of Mercenaries or something. The missions are ultra repetitive and simplistic..........which is why they were able to cram so many of them into the game to make it feel deeper. It's a beautiful game to be sure as far as visuals and has some nice concepts like deteriorating weapons but it gets old by the time you're about 45% of the way through. But at that point you're so far in you want to finish just to see what the end is like. And when you get to the end it's pretty disappointing considering how much time you put in to beat it.

There's an interview with the deveoper in the latest issue of GI where he talks about things like the re-spawning checkpoints (which was a conscious decision on their part) and why they didn't populate the game with more wildlife (like crocs in the rivers).

respawning checkpoints killed it for me. You kill everyone, drive about 50m away, come back and everyone is htere again. They should have consciously made respawns take 2 game days to replenish. Or even you take some checkpoints forever (not all) and implant them with neutral forces (UN?) it really did ruin the game for me.

Also, I completely disagree w/ the people saying multiplayer is good - imo it stinks, but the map creation tool is great - you could probably get a job fiddling around w/ that.

        Re: Far Cry 2

after a love/hate relationship with this game, I'm starting to enjoy the multiplayer. It takes some getting used to the controls and the sliding cover and the gun movement but once you build up your arsenal a bit (with XP points) it becomes fun and competitive. Also the custom maps and option for dedicated servers (which auto-launch games more quickly than finicky hosts) make it cool.

there is also an update scheduled for Feb which adds some more game play modes as well as an ability for the host to allow diamond upgrades for all players form the start so everyone in player matches can have equal choices of firepower.

We are happy to announce that we collected some information to share with you about our upcoming Xbox 360 patch.

This patch will include a lot of improvements especially on the multiplayer side; with better browsing features, more multiplayer game options, and other new additions in order to let you play the game, the way you want.

Here is a sample of features you will find in this patch:

        New match options
Add respawning time in Host - Advanced options - player match
Add starting rank in Host - Advanced options - player match
Add min players in the host option

More data on scoreboard and in game
        Add deaths in scoreboard
Show VIP on Scoreboard (for your team only)
The distance from a down teammate is displayed
The scoreboard is ordered by XP gain the match

        Improved features
Players can play consecutive matches on the same host
IEDs can be destroyed if a player shoots on it

Please take note that this list is just a preview showing element that are currently done. Other elements in polishing will be revealed soon.

The target release date is currently set in early February

        Thank you!

If they could find a way to patch the respawns in single player it would go a long way.

            update

            Save Game Issue

            Atmon- Community Developer
"A lot of you are wondering what is happening with the corrupt save bug that causes the player to get stuck at a couple of different completion percentages.
Ever since we received the first feedback on this from our support team and forums we’ve being investigating the issue.
As usual our primary objective was to collect as much relevant information as possible through forums, customer support and so on. We managed to gather a lot of corrupted save games from console and PC users. Unfortunately, all of that data wasn’t helping to understand how the corruption occurs, only what the effect of the corruption was. After trying different hardware and settings for weeks we recently managed to reproduce the bug on a development kit. We are currently repeating the same steps on retail consoles and on PC. After that, we will be able to move on to the next stage where our studio team works on a solution for all platforms.
We fully appreciate that it’s a frustratingly long wait for those of you experiencing this bug. We’re keen to resolve this issue for you as soon as possible and we are absolutely committing all the resources we can towards achieving this."

woops ... that's true... I meant to quote a post earlier concerned about the save glitch... the respawning was addressed by the devs and there is no fix for it but the regret having it that way

One of the questions was: "Why did you decide to include respawning enemies at all the guard posts?"

The answer: "This issue was raised by one of the programming leads late in the development cycle, but my feeling at the time was that it was not an issue. I knew it was happening, but the number of places in which it was noticeable was small. In fact, the number of places where you notice it is small - it is just that they almost all happen to be very close to safe houses that are frequently visited en route to and from major objectives, meaning that almost every player encounters these few places in almost every mission. We didn't do anything intentionally to make it that way, but we also didn't do anything to fix it, and that is my fault because I misestimated the severity of the issue. In hindsight, having read numerous reviews of the game, this issue seems to be the single largest problem with the game, and it is frustrating for a lot of players. It makes me a bit sad to think that this one slightly mishandled, moderately scoped technical design issue seems to have such a powerful influence on the overall perception of the game when I feel we did so many things well. I guess that's the challenge of making hugely ambitious games - you're juggling a lot of plates and it's very hard to pull off a perfect finish."

Didnt do anything intentionally to make it that way? The game didn't program itself I don't think. Of course they made it that way. They simply misjudged the impact that it would have in the eyes of the game's audience. It certainly got tiresome, but it wasn't a gamekiller or anything for me. The sheer number of repetitive missions was my biggest gripe.

                    * We are very aware of the problems some people have been experiencing and have been doing everything within our powers to resolve these issues as quickly as possible. We found out during our testing that several elements could cause an issue with the same consequences and therefore prevent certain players to finish the game. We have been able to provide solutions that prevent those corruption problems in most cases and we haven’t encountered any problems now. We apologize wholeheartedly for the inconvenience that this matter has caused to some owners of the game.
** In answer to a growing demand we have developed a tool that enable us to mark user’s created maps as ranked. You should already find a selection of those maps thanks to some of our active community members.

Ya know, something with a scope on it for example,so you're not aiming down a sight? Something that doesn't jam perhaps? Uses actual bullets too? Not the rubber ones the guns I have seem to be using.

I think it's pretty terrible anyway and it's going back tomorrow so I'll probably only play it for 5 more minutes.

The more you play the better weapons you unlock. You get some great toys later on. This is one of my all time favourite games. Yup I said it.
