Re: Far Cry 2
Also as soon as you complete any mission, you get a chance to save your game. So right after you deal with the convoy, you'll get a chance to save your progress. Keep a few different save files going.NCAA: Michigan Wolverines

Re: Far Cry 2
Yeah, it makes sense with the safe houses now...it was just hard when I didn't know about them and had to make it through 4 checkpoints without making a mistake...I could maybe do it now, but to start that's a bit much. Now I'm starting to get on a roll...got the first one done, I'll keep doing those and finding diamonds...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Far Cry 2
I've gotten about 10% progress so far but I'm just not feeling this game. Maybe because I'm playing with the same crappy guns making it boring in combat. The machine gun is the only useful weapon to use at checkpoints, the pistol and the gun that sets things on fire are useless.
I've done a few missions for the weapons dealers and he tells me he'll have a special weapon for me to get back but when I complete the mission and go back to the shop I get nothing, no payment, no gun so why am I doing these missions for the dealer? It keeps saying it will unlock the same weapons after every mission completed but it doesn't happen. Each diamond case only has 1 diamond so I can't buy any good weapons because they cost like 10+ diamonds. Am I supposed to spend hours looking for diamond cases in the bush to buy the sniper rifles. I also hate the weapons design. If I get a sniper rifle I lose my machine gun. I feel obligated to keep my machine gun because the sniper rifle is not good for close combat and is inaccurate with the kick back to use effectively.
I just feel like I'm doing missions for no good reason and killing the same people at the same checkpoints with the same gun and I don't understand the weapons computer terminal because they have so many weapons listed I don't even know which one I have to upgrade the reliability. The weapons crates cost a a bundle so it seems to be I have to be searching for diamonds for countless hours just to buy one crate.
Am I doing something wrong because this game right now just seems boring and repetitive.Comment

Re: Far Cry 2
You don't receive payment for doing weapons dealer missions, only unlockables. and I think you visit the same arms dealer to acquire the unlocked item. Sometimes it's not guns you unlock, but accessories like "assault webbing" for extra rounds.
The cases, while containing only 1 actual diamond, actually give you credit for several I believe. The best way to acquire diamonds in qauntity in this game is to complete the missions you are given from the organizations in the cease fire zones. I'm 65% of the way done and have found about 100 of the diamonds throughout the maps, and i've already unlocked and purchased all the weapons I need or want.
As for the weapons themselves, alot of them are neat but totally impractical. Instead of sniper rifles, use the dart rifle for sniping. You can carry it and an assault rifle at the same time. And as long as you land a head shot or upper torso shot it's a kill. My weapons loadout has changed little of the course of the game. For my assult rifle my first upgrade was the AK47, then the FAL Paratrooper, and now the AR16 (?) w/ scope. My loadout is as follows and it gives me everything I need to take on any mission.
Primary weapon: AR 16
Secondary weapon: grenade gun
Special weapon: Dart rifle for sniping
Hand weapon: machete (haven't bothered changing it.....if I even can)
I have all the upgrades for all these weapons as well as the upgrades for ammo capacity.
As far as the computer terminal, once you purchase a new weapon you unlock the two upgrades for it. You have 3 menus in the terminal. You must your bumper buttons to switch screens. The weapon upgrade screen is the 2nd menu and the 3rd screen is where you unlock ammo pouches and stuff so you can carry more rounds.
Also, use you molotov cocktails liberally and create fire patches to either kill multiple enemies or flush them out of hiding. As for the security checkpoints I often just blow through them in a vehicle without stopping, unless I need ammo or health syringes. A jeep with two occupants will almost always trail you out of the checkpoint but you simply pull over a ways down the road and kill the two guys and that's it. No need to jack around with killing everybody there......especially later in the game when there are more gaurds with better weapons.Last edited by metallicatz; 12-05-2008, 12:56 PM.Comment

Re: Far Cry 2
Just started this game, and figured I'd give it a go on the "Hardcore" setting and see how that went. Taking out the first safe-house was no problem, but I got killed a bunch of times at the first village you're supposed to take out (where you learn how to do recon). Any tips on what the most successful approach to this game is? Is it possible to succeed with a stealth/surprise attack approach? As soon as I got near anyone, I kept on getting spotted even when I was hiding in the brush and not moving. Or is a rush-in guns blazing approach more successful in this game? Any tips would be appreciated.Comment

Re: Far Cry 2
How do you get missions from the cease fire zones so I can get some diamonds? Do you just drive over there and find someone like you do at the weapons shop. If the camo suit costs 45 diamonds, it will take me to Groundhog Day to find that many in the bushes.Comment

Re: Far Cry 2
You just go into the cease fire zones (center of the map) and just look for the mission icon.....it will lead you to the appropriate building. There are two places in these zones to get missions and each one will have a guard at the door who will disarm you and let you enter. These missions pay up front and usually give like 30 diamonds or so.Comment
