Same here, I learned my lesson from Kotor. I just left the first planet and then my save data was curupted. I cant believe I cant remember the planet. Lol. I played the hell out of Kotor 1 and 2.

I am trying to decide between this and COD:WAW. How is this game holding up so far?

I keep a minimum of 5 saved games going and just save over the oldest one each time I come to a save point. I have been burned too many times in the past with other games.

        84% done with this game!

Far Cry 2 would be my pick as the single player game is way better IMO.

Seems kinda fun so far, but man is it taking a while to get used to this game. I'll be talking about the first mission, but just in case I'll put spoiler tags

              Spoiler

I had turned off auto-aim, because usually that's cheesy, but should I turn it back on? Is this one of those games that takes 2 hours to get comfortable with? It seems like it'll be cool eventually, but right now my guy's slow, and attacking a bunch of guys at once in the open is just dumb, right? I guess I don't really know my alternative at the moment. I'll give it more play tomorrow, don't have any more time to give it tonight

I think part of my troubles is that I've played a ton of Fallout 3 lately, and that's a different FPS feel than this game....

Did you pick up some of the dead guys weapons? It's slow and it takes awhile to get into it. Are you past the tutorial part yet? You will eventually start finding diamonds and be able to upgrade weapons. Also I spend more time on foot getting from point A to point B than in the gun jeeps. There are lots of diamonds in the jungle paths, etc.

Just need to give it time. I felt the same way in the beginning, sort of ho-hum, then it picks up.

I'm still kinda mid-tutorial I think...just gotta use more cover and rush them I guess...I'll figure it out, will just be nice to have more than 60 bullets for a rifle lol.

Figured it out...I read the online GF instructions to understand the recon and that helped lol. That way I could find the ammo stash. Pretty fun once I get the hang of it, I can see myself enjoying this once I get past the learning phase. I take it I eventually start collecting weapons, once I buy cases or something...

Rushing doesn't work to well, especially when you get into the game. If you come upon a check point, stop way short and either recon it and snipe, open up with the machine gun in the back, or run the thing and hope they don't send a gun jeep after you. If they do, do a quick dismount out of the jeep, run for cover and engage them from a distance.

But, you're right about the beginning. I wasn't very impressed either, but once you get by the tutorial it changes. It almost has a scripted feel until then.

When you get to the second map things get more hectic.

Finished the game tonight. Terrific stuff, just an exceptionally well done game. For those starting, give it time: it gets better after the first couple of hours. Don't worry about getting used to it - the controls become second nature quickly. You can really approach this game differently based on how you want to play. Planning and careful movement can do you wonders. My best advice: Get done with the tutorial, make sure you have enough malaria medicine and then start the missions for the gun shops owners. Doing those unlocks better and better weapons. Do that, grab some diamonds and buy the sniper rifle. You should be well on your way then.

                      Enjoy!

I'm on my first weapons mission (ambushing a shipment)...Is there any way to save in the middle of a mission? I've got a loooooong way to go in order to even get to the convoy, and some of these checkpoint places are brutal (for someone getting used to the game). It sucks to spend 30 minutes getting close to the convoy only to have a sniper pick me off and have to go through the past half hour. Is the only way to save the save boxes in the weapons guy place?

All the weapons missions deal with ambushing a shipment. Just go to any safe house to save.

Ok, I'll look for those then, didn't realize I had other ones I didn't have to unlock (seems like most of the weapons and everything else has to be unlocked, so I assumed...)
