    Re: Far Cry 2

Aside from the checkpoints, I'm loving this game (42% in).

Then again, I'm a fan of repetition. I just switch up my weapons every 2-3 hours and I'm good to go. Not the best game ever, but certainly enjoyable.

I rescind my previous comments. This game is mind numbingly repetitive. I thought I was 42% through the entire game, not the main story.

They should have cut the main story by 10-15 missions.

They also shouldn't have made enemy cars twice as fast as any car you can drive.

In terms of repetitiveness, do you mean the story? Gameplay? Online certainly can't be. Right?

Every mission is, literally, exactly the same. Despite the huge world, the inability to scale mountains means that you can only really approach each mission in one way, and that's head on. Essentially, every mission location will be surrounded by mountains, forcing you to go through a single entrance. And yes, the mountains are a big deal since there is no way to climb at all (even a 3 foot tall ledge). Every mission is exactly the same; go to a far extreme of the map, kill every bad guy, and then either kill a guy in a small building or blow something up. Perhaps you're thinking about sniping the target? That's why he's in the building.

Then, there's the checkpoints. Yes, you just blew it up, killed 10 people, and blew up their vehicles, 5 minutes later, it'll be fully restocked. And don't even think about just passing through, since 2-3 cars will chase you through the map (shooting at you until your car breaks down). Outrun the bad guys? If you thought Madden/NCAA/NBA catch up AI is bad, just wait until you're driving full speed and a bad guy driving an identical vehicle comes from a half mile back driving twice as fast as you.

It's just mind numbingly repetitive. The first 4-5 hours are great, but I kept thinking more was going to happen, but it never did. Nothing. Just the same thing over and over again.

Totally agree, it's like GTA in the jungle and it's boring me to tears. The checkpoints just make it more tedious. They should of made this game in the same vein as the 1st Far Cry. That game was a classic.

Definitely repetitive, although the difficulty factor goes way up when you get to the 2nd map. I just finished it last night and the ending was a big let-down considering how much time you have to put in to beat it. The checkpoints weren't such a huge deal to me because I mainly stuck to navigating the map by using the rivers whenever possible. It's much quicker than driving on the roads. And it's important to have the camo suit so you can creep up on enemies in the bushes. Before you have the suit your enemies lock onto you way too easily. I had fun with the game, although it's going to back to Gamestop for store credit. It's not a keeper for me.

Agreed. Enjoyed the game. No replay value. Credit, Gamestop + $10.00.

The game isn't worth keeping for online capabilities?

Would someone be so kind in telling me how to use the maps that you download? I for the life of me can't find out how to play on them. Thanks.

I just got this game, and I am enjoying it. I really like the whole diamond = unlock weapon interface pretty nice. Online is very fun.

Thanks man. I am thinking the only way you can use these maps is to set up a player match (non-ranked online game) and invite friends to it. Could someone confirm this notion? Thanks.

*Nevermind, I read the manual (duh) and the custom maps are only available in a player match. And let me clarify, I don't think I was clear, but I was referring to the maps that are made using the map editor (COD4 Maps etc.), not the newly released DLC. Sorry about the confusion.*

also, in online player matches, they download automatically (with confirmation) when you enter a room that requires them

I am finding that I enjoy the game more in small doses. It can't be the primary or only game that I am playing.

When I first started the magically restocked checkpoints and repetition got on my nerves, but since then I have been playing the game in small doses (less than an hour), complete a mission or two and then play something else. It has helped keep the game fun.
