Just started playing D2 again after like 6 years, I never made it very far back then. I suck at this game, I don't know how to quickly use skills, since they are only bound to right/left click? So I'm just using a summoning druid since the animals do most of the *** kicking and I can fight and just summon them when they die.

Is there any way to use more skills available then just right/left click and the weapon swap button to use the other 2? lol.

You can assign 12 spells (or 16?) to buttons F1-F12 by opening up your spell/ability menu, highlighting the spell, and press the F button. You can also change which buttons you want to be your spell/ability hotkeys by going to button config. When I played, I used Q,W,E,R,A,S,D,F,Z,X,C,V keys.

Ok thanks, I got it working I think. After I hotkey it, it goes into the click slot, right? So I would just right-click after hitting the hotkey, yeah?

Also, what are the loot tiers? I know blues kinda suck, yellowish is a bit better and green are sets, what else is there? I have a ring that is kinda yellowish grey, a bit different and better than my other yellow stuff. Then I have those orange runes which kinda seem crap compared to regular gems.

Yellow means rare, and that kind of light brown color is Unique, those are usually the best. The runes are used to make rune word patterns in socketed items, like these:

I really need to stay away from Diablo 3. I made the mistake of firing up Lord of Destruction to just check on some older characters and thought for fun I would make a Necro and then quit. Next thing I know I've played for four hours and am level 16. Must...keep...clicking.

so I wanted to get Diablo II but then put it off because I was pretty busy the last time I posted in this thread. Now my schedule is more flexible and decided to go ahead and get it. I played the very first two quests and that's all I've had time for so far, but I can see I am going to like the game.

However, I am feeling overwhelmed. I don't really know how to spend my skill points and level points, I'm not even sure how to attach certain weapons/skills to certain buttons. I have armor that is better than the one I have but I can't equip it, and it says "unidentified" on it, does that mean I'm not high enough level for it?

I chose a Paladin. I just have the vanilla game, did not get the expansion yet. What are some tips for a complete noob like me?

You need to find an identify scroll or buy one from the merchant (Akara in Act I) You could also finish quest #3 (or is it 4?) and you'll find a pleasant surprise at the end. I haven't played this game in ages. I might just hop back onto some B.Net action.

There are a million different build guides to get the best out of each skill. My advice would be to find a few and read through the different builds and pick one you want to use.

Assuming you don't want to be a hardcore PVPer but rather just make sure you have a healthy character the guides will steer you in the right direction. I got back into Diablo big time in the summer but then started playing Starcraft 2. Now that the WoW expansion is gearing up I'm back into that but once that fades out I'm sure I will be back to ol faithful Diablo 2 until Diablo 3 finally appears.

yeah I found some guides out there for different builds, I think the one that interests me the most is for the Hammer Paladin. I don't want to do any PvP, just questing and eventually grinding for better items. Can you respec without the expansion? Because I'm sure that once I get a high enough level I'll want to respec, but I read somewhere that said you could do it without the expansion.

Hammerdins aren't all that great unless you can get items to boost your skill level.

I haven't played classic so I don't know of any builds of the top of my head. I may be wrong though. Hammerdins may be great in classic.
