If any of you want an ARPG that feels like a spiritual successor to D2, I HIGHLY suggest you go download the Path of Exile open beta. Like right now. Join in the OS thread here. More people need to play this game, it is honestly more addicting than D2 to me.

The Path of Exile official forums have basic starting builds mapped out but there are too many options for someone to be pigeonholed.

Console Diablo 3 playable offline, real money auction house removed, not exactly a Sony exclusive

Which leads to some other changes, namely the removal of the real money auction house. “The ecosystems on the PC and console are very different,” Mosqueira explained. “There were some technical reasons we had to go with offline, but again once you have an offline experience, even if we wanted to bring in the auction house, it just becomes problematic. How do you validate? How do you make sure there is no duping or any of that stuff?”

There were a surprising number of changes to the game, and almost all of them seemed to have improved things, in my humble opinion. I asked about the PlayStation 4 version, and was told that they are only talking about the PlayStation 3 version at the moment. I also asked about their exclusivity with Sony. “We don't have any announcements to make at this time,” I was told, “But we're not necessarily a Sony exclusive.”

RMAH and offline play are the two biggest complaints about the game for PC players. Those two things forced a lot of refunds from Blizz, I know I got mine.

I hear ya. I guess the Offline/Online thing didn't bother me that much.

The RMAH I never used, so it had little impact on me. Guess that's just different strokes different folks.

The problem was that you didnt have to used the RMAH for it to effect people. Blizzard made it a point to limit drops so the RMAH was used more. Not to mention Inferno was so damn unbalanced that it made trying to solo it almost impossible. At least in Diablo 2 on Hell was doable with good gear and a little patience and you didnt have to rely on a AH to get them since drops were not basically impossible to get.

Im still pissed that the game even has Diablo in its name, the stripped down the RPG elements, the RMAH, the imbalances. Man it still makes me heated.

So true... I think we were all duped though. I mean I lived and breathed Diablo 2 and was confident that Diablo 3 was going to be amazing based soley on D2.

Same with me though I don't believe I gave D3 enough playtime to truly judge it.

Agreed. Every single friend in the real world that I knew got their refund for this game, as did everyone in my usual gaming group. So much was made about the sales of this game - they were based off d2. The real measure of this game is if they decide to release an expansion, then we will see truly how well the game sells.

Why did you guys not play it and get a refund?? Yeah the first week or so was complete BS but after that I played it like 30 hours a week for 3 months. I just got burnt out on it. Was it as good as D2? No...but its the best damned PC game I've played in a long time.

Not trying to convince anyone here, just genuinely wondering what the problem was that caused you to forsake the game?

It was horrendous to me, and tried to live off the D2 name. The spirit wasn't there, the itemization was horrible, the story was nothing special, the always online (which I only played d2 online, but the fact remains that it's a business decision I do not support) and the RMAH. Total moneygrab by Blizz.

I played for about 2-3 weeks before I got my refund I think, that game bastardized everything the Diablo teams built before them.

I'd go on, but I've played better ARPGs that are in beta and free to play (Marvel Heroes, though it's nowhere near PoE quality yet and Path of Exile, respectively.)

Oh, speaking of beta. Let's talk about Blizzards half-assed decision to have the only "beta" period be the first act of the first difficulty up to level 15 or whatever it was. Absolutely ridiculous. That's a demo, not a beta.

So frustrating, because they took one of my favorite franchises and left nothing but the mangled corpse as they laughed to the bank.
