It def seems random. I voted for DK Summit yesterday and the CPU picked it and it was mirror mode so who knows.

The mirror courses don't seem as difficult as they did on N64, maybe that's because I'm playing on 50" TV now instead of a 25" one like back in the day, hehe.

LOL, yeah that TV might be the difference. I think Mirror Mode is easier this time if you are using a bike. With bikes you don't turn until the last second anyways, so a backwards course is easier not to mess up when you don't have to prepare yourself earlier for a turn.

Re: Lets Talk About: MARIO KART WII

Does anyone know how to avoid getting completely spun out by the POW?

I'm starting to get very frustrated online because I'm constantly in 1st or 2nd and a POW comes up and there will be another racer right near me who barely spins out or loses speed, obviously putting me a disadvantage.

Is there some trick w. the brake similar to bananas in N64?

In another note, I was playing online last night and two guys with scores over 9000 came in, pretty cool. I smoked them in Dry Dry Ruins but besides that they finished 1-2 in several races.

In a bike it's easy, just do a wheelie at the last second before the POW takes affect. You'll lose your items but only spin around once, so you don't lose much time. With a kart I've jumped in the kart once and missed the POW totally, but that only happened once. It could have been me jumping or maybe I hit a bump on the road that made me miss. The wheelies on the bikes are easy to do though once you get the timing down.

Nice! I always use a bike and I've tried jumping to avoid the POW and it worked once like it did for you, good to know the wheelie trick. Those bastids online are in for it now! Hehe.

yeah it makes a huge difference. I definitely think bikes are better than karts in this game because of the wheelies and the tight turns.

Is there a trick to doing wheelies on the bikes? I just got the game this weekend, but every time I try and do a wheelie I accidentilly veer left or right when "raising" the controller.

Loving the game so far... haven't played Mario Kart since the N64 version and i'm totally addicted all over again! Just need to figure out which characters and karts/bikes work the best for me. I always used to be a Toad man back in the day, but I feel like his top speed is lacking a bit and I constantly get knocked all over the track.

i use the remote and nun chuk and i just "flip" the remote back toward me to do a wheelie. hard to describe but just go play around on a track for awhile and you'll get it.

Took me awhile to come around, but I picked this up as a gift for my son who has showed some interest in the game. Can't wait for Saturday to roll around so me and him can give it a go.

How is everyone playing? Racing wheel or classic controller?

I'm playing with the nunchuck... for the life of me I can't control the game with the racing wheel. (Mostly because the thing doesn't center itself like a real steering wheel which I can't get used to) My little nephews are enjoying the game when using it, so it's got some use!

It's a fun game to play together, especially online... The little guy (4 yrs) is a guaranteed last place finish... but then he gets all the blue shells and if I hang around as the second place guy he helps me win first place. Teamwork lol.

Sounds good man, my little man is just turning 5. Hopefully he gets the hang of it and enjoys it. I know me and my cousins grew up on the SNES version. We would play the game all day, every day.
