the mrs. and i tried to help him play a little but he was more interested in holding the controller.

I'm using a GC controller. I tried the wheel again last weekend for the first time since I bought the game and I still can't control that thing worth a damn. I'm amazed some people are so good at it.

BTW, I saw a guy online last night who had a 9999 rating, he won a race and got +0 so I assume that's as high as you can go. He probably cheesed somehow to get that rating, do races against your friends count towards your online ranking?

nah Friend races don't count to your VR rating. My VR rating is something around 7000. My wife's is around 8600!!!!

I'm trying to get a few star ratings on 150cc so I can unlock a few more vehicles, but it's ridiculously difficult. No skill needed here, you just need quite a bit of luck. I've tried everything, different characters, differents vehicles, taking large leads(hello blue shell/s)following a lead CPU car(yeah, the ones with unlimited speed boosts)until we're near the finish line, but nothing works.

I'm going to start playing the lottery, and when I win that, I'll play 150cc grand prix again.

Sorry, I had to vent a bit. This is the only game that makes me want to throw my controller THROUGH my TV screen. I shudder at the thought of someday it may happen.

I'm using the nunchuk to play, how do I jump and power slide and all that? I just got the game from Gamefly so I don't have any instructions.

This is from a FAQ at gamefaqs (powersliding is called drifting now by the way):
              Wiimote and Nunchuk
              -------------------
Analog Stick - Steer / Throw Items Backward or Forward
              A Button - Accelerate
B Button - Drift (Manual), Item (Auto)
              Z Button - Use Item
              C Button - Reverse Look
Flick Wiimote Up - Trick / Wheelie (Bike Only)
              + Button - Pause

Check out the game's page on Gamefly, and look along the tabs at the bottom for Instructions. You can usually download the game's manual pdf file but only when you have it currently rented out.

                    Major bumpage.

I was late picking up this game, but I've had it for about a month now and I'm completely hooked. It's the most fun experience the Wii has given me so far outside of playing Wii Sports with friends. Online is a blast and there is enough to do offline to keep you busy.

SSB and Galaxy are probably both better games than this in terms of depth and technical achievements, but this game is just plain fun.

I still play this online with people around an hour a night. Great game, best on the Wii IMO.

I still haven't unlocked everything offline yet, so I switch off between playing a circuit offline and going online each time I get to play. I'm totally hooked, SSB was a blast but it sure fell off of my radar really quickly, this game has been sticking around for me.

if we could get some OSers together that'd be great. I just took this online for the first time today and the best finish I could muster out of seven races was fifth place. But yeah it's incredibly addicting.

The problem with me playing this online is I don't have WiFi at my place so I have to steal my neighbor's to play the Wii online and they usually shut it down around 10:30 eastern every night. So after 10:30 I would say is a no-go for me.

I usually play for about an hour from ~7:00 - 8:00 on weekdays, next time I load the game I'll get my friend code and post it.

I discovered the Time Trials last night, those things take this game to a whole other level of addiction, I've still not been able to get any time that ranks better than a C.

I had a pretty odd experience last night, I guess it's just coincidence but still...

I played online from about 12am-1am this morning after the wifey went to sleep, so that's about 30 races let's say. I did not race a single course with more than three people. Every single race for an hour straight was me and two other people. I'd quit a circuit, move around - still three people. I'd play 10 straight with a pair of people and no one else ever joined.

Is there a "Three for Thursday" setting in MK's online server or something?
